Hak
Hi guys, I believe that my front sub-frame bolts are loose as the car makes a clunking noise when parking. It always clunks once when going from fwd-reverse and vice-versa especially when the brakes are applied. My question is, when I tighten the bolts should I stop the car in fwd? or reverse? As I guess the frame will be in two slightly different positions. I hope that makes sense. Thanks.
uk-rich
i'd check that they are actually loose first

mikeyb10supra
Sorry Mikey, didnt get u..?? Are you talking about pads? subframe bolts, amazing how much they move over time
Matt _Aero top_
I've got exactly the same problem with mine been under the car a few times now tightening the subframe bolts if i remember correctly the 19's bolts are 200Nm and the 17's are around 148Nm . The search will give you the exact figures , Though on on of the diagrams it shows 8x19 bolts but for the life of me i can only find 6 . I think i'll check my brake pads but from the noise my car makes i think its more than just the pads , just hope its not the bottom arms or something like that at £200 + vat each . Hak
Are any of the subrframe bolts hidden by the plastic engine tray? I didnt bother to remove it when I looked. Thanks
Chris Wilson
Are any of the subrframe bolts hidden by the plastic engine tray? I didnt bother to remove it when I looked. Thanks No, but it sounds more like pad movement, or worn sliders if it's on Jap spec brakes/
Ark
Can these bolts be tightened without a ramp?
Hak
No, but it sounds more like pad movement, or worn sliders if it's on Jap spec brakes/ This noise is really bugging me cos its getting embarrassing! I was doubting the brakes because I couldnt feel it through the brake pedal - good/bad assumption - I dont know...? opinions please…. Also got my mate to drive it and it sometimes comes the front left and sometimes from the front right - but in both cases it sounds like its coming from underneath and not from the wheels - but its hard to tell. Cheers
bignum
You probably wont feel pads moving through the pedal.
Hak
I'd be gutted if its the pads. I bought them from toyota.
bignum
Have you got uk 4 pot brakes or sliding single pot, ie standard j spec calipers, pads in the 4 pots do move a bit, like you can move them around with your pinkies.
Thorin
They move around more without the anti-squeal shims in too I believe.

Hak
The guy at toyota also suggested the pads. He said that I could buy a spring and clip kit to cure it, not sure tho...?
