Loose Sub-Frame question.

Hi guys,

I believe that my front sub-frame bolts are loose as the car makes a clunking noise when parking. It always clunks once when going from fwd-reverse and vice-versa especially when the brakes are applied.

My question is, when I tighten the bolts should I stop the car in fwd? or reverse? As I guess the frame will be in two slightly different positions. I hope that makes sense.

Thanks.

  • 3 weeks later...

Spent some time under the car and couldnt find anything loose.

If it was the pads moving would'nt I feel it in the brake pedal? How do u stop pads from moving??

Thanks

I've got exactly the same problem with mine been under the car a few times now tightening the subframe bolts if i remember correctly the 19's bolts are 200Nm and the 17's are around 148Nm .

The search will give you the exact figures , Though on on of the diagrams it shows 8x19 bolts but for the life of me i can only find 6 .

I think i'll check my brake pads but from the noise my car makes i think its more than just the pads , just hope its not the bottom arms or something like that at £200 + vat each .

No, but it sounds more like pad movement, or worn sliders if it's on Jap spec brakes/

This noise is really bugging me cos its getting embarrassing!

I was doubting the brakes because I couldnt feel it through the brake pedal - good/bad assumption - I dont know...? opinions please….

Also got my mate to drive it and it sometimes comes the front left and sometimes from the front right - but in both cases it sounds like its coming from underneath and not from the wheels - but its hard to tell.

Cheers
