Just wondering if anyone who uses the ultimate has had any oddities with the injector lag adjustment?

I initially reset my lag from the default of 0.90 which comes up in the 2JZGTE settings to 0.40 as it would run pig rich 12.5 AFR on hot idle, all has been well for some time, then all of a sudden the idle has gone rich again? back around 12.5 so i have reset the lag down to 0.20 in order to get AFRs to 14.7 ish, this is why i initially thought i had a lambda problem, but i have checked this and its fine, nothing wrong with the wideband or the sensor calibration either, this is most odd?:conf:

Because it has the lag adjustment, i thought i would use it, the 0.90 it loads with is to rich so having had it run fine with 0.40 for some time now, i just can't fathom why it should suddenly go rich again, i never actually thought to run it with none dialled in.

It's got autobox controls as well, installed one of them yet? ;)

Anyway, maybe I just lucked out and my injectors have the same lag as stock. Although I think a couple of other people have benefitted from those settings being set to 0.0 all round...

Perhaps i should rephrase that, as the EMU provided a lag setting that corresponded to the engine code and std injector size inputed, i presumed that there was a valid reason to use it.

And had i an autobox, i might well have tried the configuration settings:rolleyes:

Thanks for the feed back though

Whats this Autobox configuration on the EMU in aid of guy's?

I'm currently running EMB on a BPU Auto TT which so far (touches wood) been fine with fuel control although has been giving me grief with ignition control causing intermittant misfire with modest advance (possibility could be coil packs but i'm not convinced as i've tried a new pack in all the slots as well as various plug types and gaps and it was still the same)

Are the Ignition dwell settings adjustable on EMB as the only way i've been able to eliminate the miss is by bypassing the ignition harness therefore not recieving any benifits of the ignition mapping.

I've wondered if the Ignition driver part of my EMB may not be right so i've been thinking of reasons to go EMU, turbo and injector upgrades/enlargement may be on the cards soon, I know EMB should still be fine for these but Autobox feature sounds interesting, or at least another proverbial can of worms!

It lets you pull ignition timing under certain shift up and shift down conditions, this can alleviate harsh shifting when giving it full beans.

An EMB can run the ignition timing one of three ways in my experience:

1) it works fine

2) you can pull timing but if you add it the engine cuts out as soon as it hits an advance load site

3) the car won't start and you get a raft of ignition errors in the EM software.

It's more likely to be the coil packs, and I couldn't cure a misfire by swapping about three new ones, never mind one. I bit the bullet, replaced all six, and have never had a problem since.

However you could have dodgy wiring or something :) Substitution testing looks like the way to go here.

Thanks for reply Ian, doesn't the stock Auto box ECU retard ignition to soften gearchanges anyway or does it just use the TC throttle? Guess would make easier junking of 2nd throttle plate on an Auto if it's not needed for anything other than TC.

Yeah i have been thinking a full 6replacement of coils should be done at some point, it's just annoying when there isn't even the slightest crack or signs of any aging on them and they all measure up same primary stage resistance and the new one+MRT data which i realise doesn't really prove anything (even tried measuring them when hot to see if this made any difference, desparation!).

Checked and tidied up wiring last summer, in all fairness Paul did a good job on the wiring and only found a poor joint on one wire, can't remember what it was but was down to a couple of strands and when was made good made no diffrence, even went through all terminals on stock ECU plugs to see if any were overly opened out, all looked pretty good, might have a good look the EMB Ignition Harness multiplug and maybe re-join the Ign harness, bite the bullet and get a set of coils on the way.

No idea tbh.

Those cracks they get on the outside are just the casing, it's a common misconception to think that is an indication of a problem coil. They can look as clean as you like, but it's the internals that break down, and it's the secondary coil that is disconnected from everything. You can only check them with specialist kit and training to know what you are looking at.

Yeah i kinda know that from some Porkers i've worked on, amazing how random the coil pack lottery is on some cars, think Audi's had some major issues with coil packs breaking down on relatively new cars also so what chance have the older ones got, guess the manufacturers just have to worry bout them lasting the 2/3year warranty period!

It's just shocking how much Supra ones cost compared to some manufacturers, I think a 996/997 model yr 911 coil pack weighs in roughly £35+vat and I think a mate of mine paid bout the same for his R34 GTR ones a couple weeks back, when i bought single 1 from MRT think it was nearly £80! A lot to fork out for 6 for summink i didn't have concrete proof to prove was faulty. Is Nic the only man to see for a competitive price on a set of new coils?

Can't other coil packs be adapted, providing the resistance is compatible? shame Splitfire don't do a Supra set, i think outboard coils can be used, but which ones?

Does anyone have a spare Supra coil?

I have a work colleague who may be able to help sourcing alternatives for substitution.......
