Nice daily car for £10K?

I can't be very specific on what is "nice" and I'm afraid I don't really know what the important qualities are. A friend of mine will soon be looking for a car. Her budget is about £10K. I think it has to be reliable, and the servicing cannot be expensive.

I did offer her my Supra - but she says she doen't have time to spend all day on here.

She had previously considered A3s but seems to have gone off that idea. Current choice seems to a mini convertible - although I thought that mini's could be a bit unreliable?

I suggested an MX5 if she wants a convertible but that's "too low" apparently.

Any ideas?

A leon cupra R? 225bhp (or 210...), 5 doors, reliable & cheap servicing as you said. Certainly not a convertable without some chainsaws getting involved though.

206CC maybe as it's fairly girly but I don't know how reliable it is considering some of the stories i've heard about peugeot's reliability.

2nd vote for a SEAT Leon Cupra or Cupra R here..... 10k should get a decent R - VW reliability, cheaper/interchangeable parts, and really quite nippy :)

That's assuming it doesnt have to be a convertible...

The gf has just bought a brand new Ford Fiesta [Zetec Climate] for a little over that.

I've driven it and it handles really well. The gf loves it.

ETA (from the gf) : It's a 1.4. It has loads of gadgets to play with, the lights and wipers are all automatic, which I like. Good Aircon, automatic mirrors that fold in when you lock it. Heated front and rear windscreen (and side mirrors). It's a girls car really. I love it!! The colour is Colorado Red and cleans up really well. The wheels, tinted windows, etc are all obviously optional extras. But with everything, still comes in under 11k.

I had the 1.4 TDCi Ghia for a while, handled nicely and the engine had loads of torque, the main problem was the seats, you were perched on them and had to cling onto the wheel to stop yourself falling over under hard cornering.

My girlfriend has a Civic 1.6 VTEC sport. Really nice car to drive. For 10K I'd imagine your into type r territory. Hers was £8k from a main dealer about a year ago.

It's been reliable as anything so far, which everybody always says with Honda.

Looks quite similar to the type r but without the insurance costs etc. Really nice interior too leather and alacantera. Comfy seats.

There's a few piccies below. Although the interior needed a clean.

How about a Suzuki Swift Sport? Fiat Panda 100hp? Grande Punto Sporting?

You can tell we're a bunch of petrol heads on here! As soon as someone asks about a different car to the Supra we all start asking ourselves how FAST can we go for that money!! :D

NB:

I suspect she won't want an R - she doesn't really have any desire to go fast. I will mention the Cupra though.

I'd say a boggo 1.6 Civic or something, probably won't get a new shape for 10k (not in good condition anyway?), but should get a spanking good old shape one with all the goodies for that much!

I thought the same actually - I don't think that's really her priority!

I think they must have changed the seat design then in the latest models, not found that problem, in fact surprisingly nice seats for a standard car :)
