Ametech Engine Restorer & Lubricant

Banzai are trying this in their Aristo, it's supposed to repair worn area's in the cylinder walls caused by friction, restoring cylinder compression and improving engine performance. It's also said to reduce oil burning, smoking exhausts and help with fuel economy. It's said to have a good reputation in the States where it's been used for year's. (Got this from the mag). What do people think of this stuff ?, may be good for car's with higher mileage..

How can a lubicant additive repair worn areas in cylinder walls etc ?

Don't know mate, just going by what is said in the mag. It also says that a guy (colleague of the writer), with a 170,000 mile porche 944 noticed a differance after putting it in the engine. Could be crap though.

End of the day mate, if something internal is broken, no matter what you are using it ain't gonna fix anything.. or make anything any better.. If something is worn its gonna stay worn, might possbily prolong it wearing at the same rate.

yeah exactly, if internal parts are worn no oil is going to replace the worn areas, that would literally be 'magic' and that ain't gonna happen. Most likely it's just a thick oil that works well in worn engines and maybe helps the owner to think things aren't as bad as they really, for a while...

On page 3 of that PH thread I posted, the chemist reckons that at -10 degrees its effectively rock solid apparently

Its called engine remetalizing and has been going on for years with plazma sprays but we now do it with copper-lead micro spheres and

here are some real users:

Do you just trawl the internet searching for a fight??!!

You don't really want to come on here and start the same bollox as you did on pistonheads do you???

We don't need your wonder product...please peddle it elsewhere

I have seen this product first hand.. My father in law used it on his morris minor which rattled due to worn shells (Not my choice, but he wanted an extra 2 weeks before the shells arrived). This product certainly may have quitened down the rattle but I've taken a look at the crank and there appears to be a fair amount of scoring on the crank, more so than what was there prior to the addition of this stuff (and this was only over a two week period).

Moved to tech for discussion.

Technically, it's pouring metal into the engine....

Technically, it's bloody frightening that someone is trying to peddle it.

Technically, it's putting something in, in a vein attempt to mask an underlying issue.

Technically, if you think you need this, you are wrong.

Technical enough??

I read some of the thread on pistonheads. It is such 100% junk science I'm not wasting my time or anyone elses on it. I got it moved to technical just so I could go:

"Piss off with your snake oil, you aren't welcome here."

And then lock the thread :)
