michael
Don't cheat (yeah right!), off the top of your head what do you think the diameter of a 1 pence coin is? Post here - metric please (Ideally guess without the aid of a penny or any measuring devices and no Google)

michael
Mr Badger has ruined it but on the whole most people, that aren't mighty , underestimate the diameter and guess around 15mm, the actual size, quoted by the Royal Mint, is 20.3mm. Extra triva: the thickness of the coin is 1.52mm for the bronze versions and 1.65mm for the copper-plated steel which arrived in 1992. The 1p coin is legal tender for amounts up to 20p... I wasn't aware of this until today. Ewen
So, youve just become the latest victim of Britains burgeoning gun-crime, you have a hole in you the size of a one pence piece and you dont have a tape measure....you are attempting to ascertain the calibre before ringing the emergency services as its a real bind not having the information to hand when they ask. I'd say youve just been shot with an elephant gun. HTH.

michael
What does that mean? That you can't pay for something worth 25p with twenty-five 1p pieces? That's the way I read it but it sounds a bit silly, similar statements exist for all the coins.
