I have done just over 100k and noticed my engine was tapping quite loudly, I have taken the cover of and measured the clearance and they are all off, whats the easiest way to adjust them? I have a toyota tech disc with instructions but cant understand tech talk!

You need to write down what the clearances are at the moment, then take each shim out and measure it with a micrometer (or hopefully they will have a number stamped on the back). Then there's a table in the tech manual which tells you which new shim you need given the existing clearance and old shim size. You then need to order the right new shims from Toyota and stick 'em in and then meaure the clearance again to check it's right.

You can take the shims out without removing the cams, you need to use a special tool though. You rotate them round so the slot is at right angles to the cam and then use the tool to press the bucket down while you use a magnet to fish the shim out. It's probably easier to take the cams out.
