michael
I've just been forwarded a message by our travel department, apparently it's going to get even more annoying to get through our airports thanks to potential terrorists... The Department for transport (DFT) has directed all UK airports to introduce testing of liquids contained within the clear plastic bag carried within hand baggage. This will come into effect from Tuesday 1st May 2007. Please be advised this testing will also apply to aircrew and airport staff. The testing will take place as the individual passes through the security search point to go airside. It is anticipated that this introduction will cause inconvenience to customers, airport staff and crew travelling through UK airports and will potentially impact the speed of security processing. Pete
Easiest thing is just to not take any liquids through to the lounge. If I were a terrorist I'd just get a job at WHSmiths and put it into the coke bottles during delivery therefore by passing security checks. jase_93tt
Yup. Plastic bag thingy was in effect the other week when me and the missus jetted off from Manchester. Anything over 100ml and it gets taken from you (you dont get it back! - missus was well peeved when her expensive hair products got whizzed in the bin!). I think this process will affect women more than men ?? It's all a very minor process and isnt much/if any of an inconvenience. Still, Im up for any security measures that goes toward preventing brainwarped terrorists from killing innocent people
jase_93tt
Oh and you only get 1 small plastic, transparent bag per person, so if all your 100ml or less bottles dont fit, any excess gets lobbed too!

toyotasuprauk
Bloody brain washed terrorists! Still that’s the problems we are facing these days though. When I went to America in September the security checks were taking so long that had to call people forward from the queues that were going to miss their flights. Once we got through it was just a case of some breakfast and straight on the plane no waiting or time for shopping on the secure side. On the way back though the same security checks were in place yet there was no queuing at the American airport. Gatwick is really busy though I suppose. Still it has to be done but the testing of liquids must add some serious time delays!
Snooze
Took little Adam (9 months) through Gatwick last year and, although you're allowed to take food/fluids for babies over and above the 100ml limit, I had to demonstrate the fluids (Adam's water bottles) were safe by tasting a small amount of each in front of the security guard. I saw people doing that last year, probably drinking a bit of their wifes breast milk.

As for the baby food, I hope Adam's doesn't taste that bad as I make most of it!!!
dangerous brain
Ah baby organics for us
Snooze
Hipp organic are our backups, and now Adam wants to feed himself but hasn't got any teeth yet, the Organix finger-food snacks are the proverbial dogs danglies. Not sure what airport security would make of them!
Homer
It certainly wasn't in place yesterday, the procedures were the same as they always are (except the full body scanners are being used more). I carried on a bottle of water and Lucozade at Heathrow and no one checked them.
Ark
I still don't see the big fuss over the whole 'liquids' thing. I heard a chemist on the radio talking bout this, and they were talking about needing literally gallons of raw materials to make enough explosive to bring down a plane. Plus the mixing method would take many hours in a controlled, stable environment - not exactly something you can achieve in an aeroplane toilet! The Restorer
The first post says that the liquids will now also be tested. Before we just had to show liquid content, now it will also be tested. Didn't do this with Homer yesterday, but I can see it adding delays, if and when it is done.
