paul_k
Just bought a low beam headlight for my 97 Facelift J spec NA from Halfords. Their book says it should be a 9005 this however is 60W whereas the (UK) manual states 51 W. So bought this and the socket on the bulb has 2 guides instead of one. Should I buy the 9006 and try to bodge it in or keep the 9005 and cut the 2 guides out from the bulb socket... Do Halfords actually sell a bulb that fits? I think not. Why do J specs have to be different Cheers Paul
Nic
Just use the 9005, it should fit without any modification to the lugs.
Stu_Fraser
Ive just fitted UK spec headlights....... as others have said you can get the j spec bulbs to fit. I took a stanley knife to the bulbs to get them to fit
merckx
Ive just fitted UK spec headlights Stu, do they look better than the J spec plastic lights. I'm not sure whether to get some?
Stu_Fraser
Stu, do they look better than the J spec plastic lights. Yeah much better, none of that dull yellow plastic, just shiny clear glass:D like this:

dangerous brain
the 60W bulbs when you trim the two bits off fit OK and give a new lease of life to dulling J-spec plastic lights in the night vision aspect (obviously doesn't stop em looking crap in the day). I think i actually fitted phillips 65W bulbs in my last car and fitted the main beam 65W one in both main and dipped. I have UK glass lights on my new motor and I have to say even though the old J-specs weren't even yellow yet the glass ones look so much better. Terminator
The UK lamps I bought were not up to much so I referbed them and sold them on. Have to stick with my little JDM lamps for now.
paul_k
OK removed the slots from the bulb sockets from the 9005 bulbs and they fit fine. Does anyone know what the reason is for the different slots on the J spec? Cheers Paul
Seb
Is it safe to use a 65w bulb in place of a 55w one? I'm tempted to stick 9005 bulbs in my dipped holders, but not sure if the extra 10w rating will do any damage. Seb

I've been using 100W bulbs in my dipped beam for the last few months, no problems yet. I did have a problem with some 55w Xenon bulbs but that was because they cheapo crap.
