b_have
Just bought my second supra (just for shopping trips) It is a UK tt with Hybrids, 3500TC, Big custom built FMIC and a few other bits. Did a 12.1 Quarter mile, but feels slow compared. It has a Egt guage which seems to be reading a little high (I hope!) It shows about 900C at cruising speed and rises to around 1200 at WOT. The probe is mounted in the downpipe post turbos where i would expect to see around 750c max. (no cats) any ideas on calibration? is it likely to be a probe problem or guage malfunction? heckler
Does seem a but warm that... I have hybrids - even at WOT (at 1.45bar) my temps wont go above 830... ok, so I have an FMIC and water injection.. TBH, i wouldnt expect them to go over 950... I have my EGT probe on the No1 runner... I'm sure someone with better knowledge will be along soon...
SimonB
I think if your EGTs were 1200C before turbos your engine would have melted by now, never mind after turbos! It's not reading in fahrenheit is it? 1200 deg F is 650 deg C.
b_have
Good thinking batman! Just removed the guage and sure enough...F x 100 , bloody yanks! ok, have another problem, VERY slight rattle at about 2-3krpm, only noticeable at neutral torque (between acceleration and overun) Big end? Cambelt tensioner? Worrying.....
TLicense
I've had this on a number of toyota's I've owned in the past (2 Mk1 MR2's and a ST185 GT-Four) Every time it was big end bearings. If it is this it's the first time I've ever heard of the bottom end going south on a soop. However there is always a first time... The bearings themselves are cheap (something like £50 for the GT-four I had) Replacing them was a bit of a pain but nothing like brain surgery. I would take it to someone to confirm or deny this, but if it is then I would change them quick, because otherwise you can knacker up a crank. I have half a piston sitting on my desk at work from my MR2 because I couldn't afford to replace the crank, and tried to make the journey to work with just replacing the bearings. However like I said I've never heard of a 2JZ engine losing the bottom end like this so I would wait untill someone else confirms or denies this. Out of interest have you ever run your car low on oil at all, or had to change the oil pump? Oil starvation certainly seems to contribute to big end failure. Hope it turns out to be something else. b_have
Thanks for that Tony, Not sure of the history of the car, I think Dude knows it and has worked on it. I was going to pull out the engine anyway so its not a huge problem if it is BEB's. Was going to rebuild it using all my PHR bits and electronics as it has a cool paint job and nice 19inch wheels, But it handles SO bad compared to mine. Feels really lardy, but i spent a LOT of time on my setup, so it may just need that. Anyone find 19" wheels compromise handling?
Matt Harwood
Is the rattle there at idle? - Might just be a worn actuator arm rattling under the turbo's.
