I need a new instrument panel

Posted in another thread:

I noticed my speedo dial has stopped working.

RPM, Temp, Fuel and everything else is ok.

THOR Racing fitted a SLD which disabled the speed limiter and I was able to drive over the 125mph limit, but after I noticed the Speedo not working the car would no longer drive above (or what I guessed, as I had no gauge) 125mph. So, I can assume that the signal is not going through the Speedo and therefore the SLD unit.

Last week I fitted a Glo Dial kit :) and tested to check everything worked ok. To be honest I can’t remember noticing anything wrong with the speedo then. I’m sure I would have noticed it before but I can’t honestly say.

I have taken the dash out, check the wiring, made sure the new glo dial isn’t rubbing on the arrow, even pushed the arrow around as I’m driving and checked all the plugs but can’t find any problems.

Any ideas guys and gals

Conclusion:

Pete at Thor said he will look at the dash but advised me to do a few more tests. I'm gona take another look this weekend then book the car in with Thor but am anticipating worst news, hence looking for a new unit just in case.

I had almost the same problem chap check out this thread Delimiter problems .

Basically it turned out to be a dodgy earth. I replaced the earth to the speedo with a new one to a new earth point and problem was fixed. Its most likely that when your wiring was moved its caused an earth problem. If you have a voltmeter and an accomplice (the accomplice can read the voltmeter while you drive) stick it across the output from SLD to see if that is putting a variable voltage out. If not the reason its still limiting is that there is a secondary circuit that the ECU can get a speed reading from and it reverts to that which is why the car still hits the limiter.

Then if there is no signal on that line check the input lines and see if there is a signal there. If theres no input signal then your problem is further back towards the speedo and not with the SLD fitment (which I suspect is the case). Try re-earthing the speedo (I did it to a bolt under the dash). If this doesn't work then check the input voltage to the speedo.

If theres no voltage there then you may have a problem further back ie at the speed pickup point on the gearbox (I really doubt that as that section hasn't been touched and you have been messing about quite a bit at the speedo end).

When you get the feed to the speedo working there is also a known problem with taking the needle off the dial of the speedo with the speed reading being wrong and there is a procedure for putting that right somewhere on here.

The wiring diagram is on the last thread you posted about this

IMHO you will fix this by re-earthing the speedo

No worries mate. If you were down this way I coulda given you a hand, transposed my speedo in to check it first would have saved a lot of effort. You are in top hands with thor though fabulous chaps they are. I know it really asses you off when summat goes wrong on your car like this but try not to let it get you down generally speaking its something very simple. With electrics it just takes patience and a logical series of tests (and a bit of luck occasionally) to sort it out.
