M4RK RZ
Just about to fit this baby up but not sure where to put the oil temp sensor? I take it Ill need a squash plate - or maybe you can tap in somewhere?
Tricky-Ricky
Sandwich plate is the easiest way, but you will see hotter temps due to the location, best most stable place is the sump but you would need to take it off and weld in a bung. lui
You can buy a greedy sandwich plate which fits between oil filter & block & this has spaces for three sensors for around £60.00, or get sump plug tapped & fit it there.

Ive got mine fitted in a sandwich plate & like you said getting hotter readings there mine's is around 95 degrees normal & goes up to around 115 - 119 when driven hard take it much more correct reading if tapped into sump plug

Just wondered if known what sort of temperatures should one expect being fitted in sandwich plate between oil filter & block so that i can set my saftey limit ???????? merckx
You can get a sandwich plate for less than £30 on Ebay. Or get a tapped sump plug bolt, some here. I cannot remember the size. http://www.blitz-uk.co.uk/Product-25.aspx I fitted the sandwich plate , it's a little fiddly getting it tightened up. I bought a deeper socket to do this. There aren't that many threads for holding the oil filter in place either. If I had to do it again I would put it in the sump.

It's all relative, whatever you get when the car is running well is normal. Unless you fit a gauge and get a reading from a badly running car, which isn't that probable. Angarak
I have a Blitz MD Oil Temp gauge in my car, the sensor for mine is in the sump plug. I replaced the stock sump plug with a tapped 1/8"NPT Female to M12*1.25 Male. It cost me £5.99 from LMA Group (Part No: LMA086). :: http://www.lma-group.com/motorsport/Products/Gauge_Fitting_Parts/gauge_fitting_parts.html
tooquicktostop
I have a bung in the sump and the defi sendor is located there, I see temps of 80-90c normal driving and 100c when pushed

SimonB
I get around 100c up to about the same as you when giving it some, from previous experience on other cars you should see around 10c drop if fitted to the sump, i might even get a sump plug adapter and stick a thermocouple in just to check the difference;) I had more like 25deg difference when mine was in the sump. I've had it in a sandwich plate, in the sump and now it's where the oil feed for the 2nd turbo would normally be. Not much difference between there and the sandwich plate location. Ark
Mine runs ~100°C in the sandwich plate, and up to 125°C at WOT on track.
Kranz
You want to be seeing oil temperatures of between 90 min and 120 max degrees C in the sump. Over 125 deg C and the oil will start to burn (and you'll be able to smell it!).

Angarak
Here are 3 pics...had to manipulate the brightness in Photoshop as they came out pretty dark on my camera Hopefully you can see enough. Basically, if you look at the 3rd picture where I hold the camera just lower than the engine tray and sump, you'll see that the sensor is not lower than the sump and cannot be seen...so shouldnt be much chance of catching it *touches wood* The bronze that you can see in the 1st pic close-up is the LMA sump plug I have, the sensor sticks out about 1 inch from it but has a very flexible wire with a spring on it which is now "u" shaped to aid clearance.
