RedM
As per the title we switched out PC on this morning and XP found some 'new hardware' in the shape of our 18 month old DVD-Rom and DVD-RW. Why would it do this?
Lucifer
An update to Xp itself could have triggered it. Iv enot looked recently so not sure.
RedM
We have updates set to inform us rather than automatically update. Haven't received notification for days.
Pabs
I was going to suggest the same as Lucifer..... If Windows update downloads a newer version of a driver or similar, it could do exactly what you said. I'm assuming nobody has rolled back any drivers, or performed a system restore or similar recently?
RedM
I'm assuming nobody has rolled back any drivers, or performed a system restore or similar recently? Nope! Is there a log I can look at to see what Windows has done to itself recently?
Pete
Only other thing I can think is that for some reason it wasn't detected by the BIOS the previous time it rebooted, therefore this time Windows saw it as new hardware. You've not updated the firmware of the drive?
