Chris Wilson
Adjusted the handbrake from the inside? Did you first adjust at the shoes?

Mike B
where is the grinding noise coming from? the creak could be your suspension, after you had the car jacked.. that may settle down.. it's the other grinding noise that sounds bad.
wilko
sounds like the discs but only when vehicle is moving. it as if something is loose. do the dust guards ever cause problems oram i barking up the wrong tree.
Chris Wilson
Sounds like you did the handbrake adjustment correctly. Are you sure you didn't accidentally bend a dust shield so it's brushing a disc somewhere? Can't you isolate from which wheel the noise eminates? Then concentrate your efforts there? I don't understand the revs business, wheel / brake noise is speed related. Not RPM related...
wilko
when we took off the drivers rear disc, there are two springs with a pin and metal cap on them, one had stretched and was catching the hub so we tapped it back into shape then refitted with no catching .are these supposed to be at a set tension? also occasional groan when parking up in full lock--hoping it is the dust shields, should i back of the cable in the car to where it was chris.many thnks
Chris Wilson
The springs and cup washers just hold the shoes flat against the backing plate (hold down springs). If there's no noise when rotating the wheels with the car jacked up or on a ramp I'd look elsewhere, or ignore it until it becomes obvious what it is You could back off the cable adjuster, but if the shoes aren't binding I can't see why that would help. wilko
i think we have sorted it out, backed off handbrake from inside the car, and bent the brake dust shields back a little, this stopped the groaning noise but still had vibration. it would appear this was not brake related but the bracket underthe car that fastens to the 1st cat had a crack in and was moving slightly, now welded and noise appears to have disappeared so hopfully fingers crossed its sorted
