AJI
Just done a quick search and couldn't find a comprehensive diagram or picture labelling everything in the engine bay...... do we have one on this forum ? It would be useful for newbies and even long time owners who are not 100% sure what a certain component is or does.
colsoop
We have a couple labelling the various VSV's but i think you mean a more basic picture.
AJI
yeah, something such as a big picture of the engine bay that basically labells everything from things like radiator & charcole canister through to diagnostic ports etc. etc.
Ian C
Well if anyone has a good hires photo of a stock engine bay then post it up here and I don't mind adding a few notes -Ian

Jive
Don't forget, you need to do two threads or pictures of the engine bay one for TT and a seperate on for the NA peeps Good idea though, I may well have a picture by the end of the day as I'll be out cleaning soon
Daston
there was a pic of an engine around somewhere
Jive
I've just done this earlier today, just needs all the information on each part - I've also got another 4 pics which are close ups of the four areas of the engine bay. Ian if you want to pinch the picture be my guest, if you want the rest you can find them in my photobucket album 01 - Air Filter 02 - 03 - Air Intake Pipe 04 - VIN Plate 05 - Brake Fluid Reserviour 06 - 07 - Distributor Cap 08 - Throttle Body 09 - 10 - 11 - Charcoal Canister 12 - Diagnostic Port 13 - 14 - Fuse Box 15 - Washer Filler 16 - Power Steering Fluid Reserviour 17 - Battery 18 - Radiator Cap 19 - Cam Cover 20 - Viscous Fan Cover 21 - Horn (one of 3) Someone needs to fill in the blanks as I'm not sure of the technical names

AJI
This is exactly the type of thing I was on about. It will help newbies and existing owners to be more 'intimate' with their engine bay !! (Just need one for a TT now)
JustGav
01 - Air Filter 02 - Ignition pack 03 - Air Intake Pipe 04 - VIN Plate 05 - Brake Fluid Reserviour 06 - Brake servo 07 - Distributor Cap 08 - Throttle Body 09 - Air Intake resonance piping 10 - Plenium chamber 11 - Charcoal Canister 12 - Diagnostic Port 13 - 14 - Fuse Box 15 - Washer Filler 16 - Power Steering Fluid Reserviour 17 - Battery 18 - Radiator Cap 19 - Cam Cover 20 - Viscous Fan Cover 21 - Horn (one of 3)
Jive
This is exactly the type of thing I was on about. It will help newbies and existing owners to be more 'intimate' with their engine bay !! Tis a really good idea indeed and can see it being of benifit for alot of people, not just newbies - I've certainly learnt a lot about what's what in the engine bay just recently from having a small problem with my alternator. Do you want me to post up the other four pics? (Just need one for a TT now) Now the question here is, do you have a stock TT or a modified TT? Ian C
Have you got the image without the lines drawn on it? I ask because there are other bits that I think should be marked and also the numbering is a little fuzzy at times, I'd name them on the picture anyway so it's easily referenced with a link to the picture and not the thread. And a stock TT engine piccy please -Ian
Ian C
And my take on the list: 01 - Air Filter housing 02 - 03 - Main air Intake Pipe 04 - VIN Plate 05 - Brake Fluid Reserviour 06 - Brake servo 07 - Distributor 08 - Throttle Body 09 - Air Intake piping 10 - Plenium chamber 11 - Charcoal Canister 12 - Diagnostic Port 13 - Igniter pack 14 - Fuse Box 15 - Washer Filler 16 - Power Steering Fluid Reserviour 17 - Battery 18 - Radiator Cap 19 - Spark plug cover 20 - Fan shroud 21 - Horn (one of 3) The igniter pack was mislabelled No idea what #2 is, is it not something aftermarket like an alarm? What happened to #15 on the picture The cam covers are the metal bits either side of the spark plug cover -Ian
TrickTT
No2 is the ignition coil, no 13 is the ignitor ecu
Jive
Have you got the image without the lines drawn on it? You have PM No idea what #2 is, is it not something aftermarket like an alarm? Nope, the main HT lead is plugged into that so I'm presuming it's what Phoenix One said and go with the "Ignition Pack" - although I see you've put 13 down as the ignition pack. Perhaps you'll see better from the other pics? What happened to #15 on the picture You wouldn't believe me if I told you
Pete
If you can't identify number 4 I'd question your ability to purchase a car in the first instance.
Jive
If you can't identify number 4 I'd question your ability to purchase a car in the first instance. Ah but some people might not know where it is so knowledge before a visit to view is always helpful

Jive
I think that was the whole point of the thread, post up pics of the engine bay for people who are new to the cars, at least they'll then have a decent knowledge of where everything is. I seem to remember a thread a while back which became rather famous "where are the turbos" :d
edge
Is it my laptop or are the numbers a bit hard to see? Great idea btw.
Jive
Is it my laptop or are the numbers a bit hard to see? Great idea btw. Nope, it's not you, when I did those numbers they looked fine on my screen until I'd uploaded them .. oh and don't ask about number
TrickTT
Nope, the main HT lead is plugged into that so I'm presuming it's what Phoenix One said and go with the "Ignition Pack" - although I see you've put 13 down as the ignition pack. Perhaps you'll see better from the other pics? No2 is the ignition coil, no 13 is the ignitor ecu I must have typed the first one in invisible ink so i'll say it again. No2 is the ignition coil, no 13 is the ignitor ecu
