What species is he and how big will he grow to?

looks very smart.

Well done.

He's a Bearded dragon, and right now his body is about 9 inches and tail another 9", I've been told that they can grow about another 50% but get a lot stockier. They can live from 10-15 years apparently. I bought him a couple of weeks ago but had to sort out his vivarium before I picked him up which was last Friday.

Awesome. I've wanted a lizard/snake for years now. I almost persuaded my parents to let me get one when I was younger too. Is he a Bearded Dragon? What's his temperment like? He looks very friendly!

They are very friendly, he always likes to be handled. He tends to like climbing up your jumper and sitting on your shoulder. They seem to be very inquisitive, so I let him sit on the window sill where he just sits and looks out on the world. He doesn't like to go back in his vivarium but he has to to regain his warmth bless him.

Have you kept lizards before? If you don't mind me asking, how much did setting up the vivarium set you back, and how large is it?

There's a lady who lives just down the road from my parents who's hugely into exotic pets (terrapins, arrow frogs, iguanas, snakes, and she drives a triumph tr6/4), to the extent that custom authorities recognise her as an authority for identifying species with regard to their legal importation status. Her house is always filled with confiscated animals until they are re-homed, usually in a zoo of some sort. I think that may have fuelled my desire for an unusual pet from a young age!

No I've never kept anything like this before though I've always wanted to. I did a fair bit of research before I bought him and they apparently one of the easiest to keep. The Setup cost about £160 and the Viv is 36"x15"x15". I will probably get a bigger one once he gets a bit bigger.

Forgot to ask, you using a heat mat or lamp or both?

The first heat lamp i had got far to hot and almost killed poor Hobo, just something to watch for!

Right now I'm just using a heat lamp and UV light. I've read on various websites that it might be advisable to use a heat matt too. The reptile shop I bought him from said that the heat matt is a bit of a waste of time for a beardie as they spend most of their time sitting on branches or the cork bark like I've got. I will be wiring a dimmer switch for the heat lamp this weekend so i can turn it down at night.

Very nice, but I didn't know they were so destructive, he's made a right *ugger of that chair ;)

lol, I was wondering if anybody would pick up on the chair. It's soo comfy so I don't want to get rid of it :D

lol @ the Komodo idea. I'd have to keep it in the garden and though it would be good at keeping unwanted cats out, my cat might not last too long lol. Would be cool tho :D They can kill with one bite can't they? Though not poisonous like a snake they've got shed loads of bacteria in their mouth that you become very ill and die.
