michael
My Flymo hover mower decided to make an odd noise and produce lots of white smoke tonight, it won't work anymore so I suppose I'd better buy a new one - they must only last for around 18 months now So I'm thinking of petrol, my lawn is as steep as my driveway and it's a pain to mow, a powered mower might make life easier but are petrol ones reliable? Do they start easily? Do they use a lot of fuel? Any particular "must have" features I should look for? I only want to spend around £150 if possible so I won't be going for some crazy thing, it'll be basic I suppose but are the cheaper ones rubbish? Better still, do any of you have one knocking around that you want to part with for a bargain price?
Kranz
The cheap ones work ok. Get a cheap one with powered drive from B&Q and run it in on cheap oil, then stick decent oil in it after about 10 mows. Should last a while. I've had a cheap B&Q one for 4 years and it starts first time, cuts really long wet grass... no problems with it. You may want to get one with one of those cuttings squasher things in the grass box though, as they have a habit of filling up at the front. AlanM
Got a B&Q one 7 years ago, starts first time, every time. was about that price as far as I remember, will look at name of it tomorrow
Pete
I was still using a Suffolk Punch until recently. Bleedin' clutch burned out on it. You can't beat those old mowers. Amazingly they still make them - http://www.justlawnmowers.co.uk/pages/cylinder/Suffolk.htm
Supragal
I borrow my neighbours mower (as I STILL don't own one!) and that's a petrol jobbie, works fine, although I always seem to manage to take chunks of mud out of the lawn...
Pete
I always seem to manage to take chunks of mud out of the lawn... Fantastic! That's less to mow next time. Last week I got rather enthusiastic with the weed killer... it's halved the grass I need to mow this week.
outatime
I was told to get a Honda, I got 4.5hp IZY self propelled one on ebay for a good price. Brand new and warrantied, I can find the details if you want? It seems ok, for a mower.
michael
I had a look at some Honda ones, they seem to be very well regarded but slightly over budget, VTEC potential though
