ads274
This sort of came as common sense on my old cars but i wanted to take the wheels off earlier and wasn't sure where to put the jack. The skirts seem to get in the way and there seems to be a lot under there compared with my old escort! (no i didn't wear a cap). The manual says place the jack under the "rear diff something or other". Can anyone point me in the right direction with this please?
Ark
What kind of jack are you using? The scissor jack from the tool kit goes under the side rail, between the little marker notches cut into the rail. A trolley jack is the same, but use something to cushion it, or you'll flatten the rail. This jack can also be used under the rear diff - there's a flat area with slots in it, directly between the wheels. Again, use some soft wood as a cushion. ads274
The scissor jack is what i'm using. Does the skirt not get in the way? (looks like i have the same skirts as you have in your avatar) EDIT: think i am seeing things as you dont appear to have skirts! They are just the standard, common ones

chilli
hey, I'm pondering the same problem. OEM side skirts and the car is so frigging low I can't get the trolley jack under it. I can't see where to put the scissor jack either, to get the thing started for the trolley jack...

chilli
I know, I've had mine two years and the wheels have never had to come off yet! but I'm about to get new tyres fitted in the next week or so, so they will be coming off as soon as I get a chance to take a look at it
R3DG3CKO ROB
As Ark says If you run your hand past the OEM skirt you'll feel the side rail, it should be about an inch in from the edge of the skirt. if you can get down to see it there are two notches closer to the front arch and the same at the rear. Just put the scissor jack directly under that and you'll be fine.
Wazz72
Chilli, will the trolly jack not slide under the car? If it will then put a big lump of wood on it to pad it out. The jack points are in the manual for the scissor jack. there like little lugs behind the ends of the skirts.

I was thinking of getting it started with the scissor jack first then using the trolley jack afterwards. The back should be easy, on the diff, it's the front that is the pita! Chris Wilson
Before you knacker up either the sill returns or the chassis rails, buy some 1.5 or 2.0 inch thick timber to drive the car on to, and a decent 2 tonne low ride height trolley jack. For the price of 2 tanks of fuel, or so, you will save a lot of potential heartache and even car devaluation if you crush an underbody section. You can then safely jack up under the front cross member, or the rear differential.

I managed to pick up a good solid 2 tonne trolley jack from halfords for £30...Im sure everyone has some timber lieing around the back garden somewhere...I used bricks...
