michael
This seems to be the big thing on a slow news day so I thought I'd ask here... should he go? My personal opinion is that he should, he wants to and he's in the army... it's his job. The problem is that the media have discussed his every move and effectively made him an easy target for "the other side". Hadthey shown some restraint he could have been over, done his bit and come back without anyone knowing, sadly the British media seem unable to resist a story and someone, somewhere, would have made it public I guess. It seems a little pathetic to discuss his role in the army as if he's any different to all the other chaps doing their job but at the end of the day I guess he is, perhaps the royals shouldn't be allowed to put themselves into these situations. How would the army folks on here feel if he was out there with you? Would it make life harder?
Pete
Fine by me. I wouldn't stand next to him though.

Class One
I think he should be allowed to go and get on and do the job he joined up to do. But at the same time, he does by his very nature of being who he is, increase the risk to those in his troop if he was deployed.
michael
Michael = the forum's Trisha I just like to get people talking, I don't do the whole rice & pea DNA test thing though
Ark
Sure, if he wants to, let him go. Maybe we'll end up with one less royal living on the public purse, but at least he'll do something useful with his life.
VELOCITY
Yes he should, I know he is a Prince and all but if you are in the army then you have to expect to go to war/conflicts. Thing is he actually wants to go. Dont think he would be respected by his fellow soldiers if he was not allowed to go.

michael
I guess my main question is this - would he cause problems for the other soldiers by being out there with them? He's make a jolly nice trophy for those choppy head men.
Alex
Sure let him go - and if he get's blown up the media can blame it on a conspiracy.... So is he James Hewitt's or Prince Charles'?
Lukeyboy2k
He should definitely go. That's his job. As for him being a trophy just dress him like any other grunt, give him no special treatment and let him get on with it. It's not like the middle ages where Kings and the like rode horses wearing extravagant livery and stood out like a sore thumb. How would the "insurgents" (sp) be able to pick him out from any other poor lad that finds a bullet?

jamesmark
But at the same time, he does by his very nature of being who he is, increase the risk to those in his troop if he was deployed. would he cause problems for the other soldiers by being out there with them? I do not think for one minute that if he does (which I think he should) go to Iraq that his troops will any old Tom, Dick or Harry? he will be more then likely be placed/given with the best soliders available, then they will have to babysit him. Who knows it is what he wants and has threatened to leave the Army if shown special treatment because of who he is, fair play to him wanting to be out there. Al Massey
i was his driver on his commanders course and he is a good profesional soldier, all he wants to do is go to iraq and fight with his fellow soldiers.the only bad thing is that he may put his fellow troops in danger by being there and the "insurgents" could easily pick him out from the rest by surveilance/reconnaissance and inteligence. its just a shame the media had to get involved and they may have put alot of lives at risk
Gazboy
I wouldn't fight along side him, you might as well put a frickin flare up.
stupra
Andrew served in the Falklands, so Harry should be able to go out if he want's. That said he would be a huge target for the enemy, and his fellow troops would have to be more switched on.
Konrad
He shouldn't go - he will endanger lives of other british troops, probably favorite target for roadside bombs and suicide bombers.

MarkTheBoy
He should go, its his duty as a soldier to fight for his country. He will, as many peeps have already mentioned, be a great big neon "shoot me" sign. As a figure head and a moral booster its a damn good idea, as a potential target however he will risk the lives of the soldiers around him... they are already at risk by just being there and what soldier in the British army would say no to the honour of serving alongside the potential future king of England. *food for thought though* what would happen if he was captured and came to the same end as Ken Bigley? jamesmark
Send all the Royals to Iraq. Slightly off topic! out of interest, what do we get when the Queen dies? Is it a week or just a day off?
