Class One
I've been interested in astronomy since I was a kid, and being lucky enough to live in a rural area, on a clear night will always look up at the sky and wonder at the beauty of it all. My wife baught me a cheapy telescope this week from *cough* Bid-tv for about 30 quid. Its a Vivitar with a 3X Barlow lens providing up to 525X magnification. I've just been out playing with it in the garden looking up at the moon as it's been the first clearish night here since I got it. Quite impressed with the detail it can pick out, shame it doesn't have a DSLR mount and I'd be able to take some pics.
RedM
I've got a telescope trained on the student house nearby. Some 'heavenly' bodies there. Actually, I used to think astronomy was daft until I had a quick go on my stepdads set-up. Four hours later.......
terribleturner
I bought one for Sabrina for christmas and the moon was amazing. You could see all the craters in detail and the edge of the moon and how bumpie it is.

JustGav
As Carl Sagan said A sad spectacle. If they be inhabited, what a scope for misery and folly. If they be not inhabited, what a waste of space. while referring to the wide open universe.
Kopite
I've just been out playing with it in the garden looking up at the neighbour's bedroom as it's been the first clearish night here since I got it. Quite impressed with the detail it can pick out, shame it doesn't have a DSLR mount and I'd be able to take some pics. RedM
Time for an oldie: Sherlock Holmes and Mr. Watson went on a camping trip. After a good meal and a bottle of wine they lay down in their tent for the night and went to sleep. Some hours later, Holmes awoke and nudged his faithful friend awake. "Watson, look up at the sky and tell me what you see." Watson replied, "I see millions and millions of stars." "What does that tell you?" Holmes questioned. Watson pondered for a minute. "Astronomically, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets. Astrologically, I observe Saturn is in Leo. Logically, I deduce that the time is approximately a quarter past three. Theologically, I can see that God is all-powerful and that we are small and insignificant. Meteorologically, I suspect that we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. "Is that all?", Holmes asked. "Yes." Watson replied. "Why, am I missing something?". Holmes was quiet for a moment, then spoke: "Watson, you fool. Someone has stolen the tent."
