Cool... Thanks for that. How long you been shooting for? what else do you shoot that 1% of the time... ??

Im looking at getting some sort of horse bow for fun :D

what sort of money you after ?

Prices added to first post

legal to carry round town?

just thinking saxo hunting would be amazing to see what you could do with that gear

Compound would probably be for that! But I am pretty sure that they could do some serious damage, if you wanted to...

Legal to do so, well not sure... I have had to take the bow down (take apart into all its pieces) in a ASDA parking lot, with lots of shoppers wondering WTF is going on  Was interesting seeing there faces. :D

Recurve :D i started in RC when i was 9, had a 15 year brake untill june last year when i joind crawley archery club. Some damn fool let me have a go with their compound and i got hooked, so i trying to perfect that art now. Its ideal for me as although i have the back muscles to pull high poundage, i cant hold it without shaking like im mid earth quake :( which makes shooting a sensibly weighter RC difficult.

So how long have you been an archery and who to you shoot for? go to any comp's? Newheaven shoot next weekend that im going to, should be a good crack if the weathers ok.

Shame your limbs arent about 34ibs actually or i might have had them... would you be interested in a set of W&W winex limbs, 38ibs? bought them just before i switched to compound, and nice as they are its criminal leaving them in the box!

I know the feeling, tried a beginners course last year may - june, and I loved it. Got my kit in july and have not stopped buying crap. I am now using a pretty decent hoyt bow (nexus), with m1 hoyt carbon foam limbs.

I use 40lbs limbs, turned as high as possible, which is 44lbs at full draw. Would actually like to move a little higher in the not too distant future, so the winex limbs arent for me, but send me a PM and I will see if anyone at my club wants.

Its one of the things that I like about recurve, 44lbs to pull back is not heavy, but do it 12 dozen times with having to hold the weight while you settle and yes, you shake like a bastard...

Shoot for Reigate Priory Bowman. Small club, one guy was Surrey County last year, and the coach used to shoot for the UK, so lots of help with my shooting.

Was outside on sunday, and got my 1st 1st class for the year, so that restates my 1st class for the year. Should be able to reach my bowman in next few months, hopefully! And sadly not even using a clicker yet...

Dont think I am shooting in Newhaven, my other half organises all the comps, however will be at the Surrey Champs this year!!

Recurve is an olympic sport so I have high hopes... for 2012...

Yes sadly they are unliekly to make compound an olympic sport any time soon, so i wont be chasing that dream, but hey ho its all good fun.

I shoot about 55-60 pounds on the compound. Currently trying to master back tension releasing, which scares the crap out of me as you dont know when the release is going to give :D

The nexus is a very nice bit of kit, i was looking at one had i stayed shooting RC.

Ill be at the sussex champs (i think) CAC is one of the helper clubs this year, will have to say hi :p Just look out for the silver supra in the car park :D

back tension is so important! for both styles of shooting...

Must admit, I have no idea how the poundage works for compound, but I have shot with one before, and was awesome. I do remember that you have decreasing poundage on the fingers due to the cams so you dont have to hold the full weight, which does help, a little!!

Really like my new bow, its awesome! Now I just need to tune it and start using a clicker.

there may just be 2 silver supras parked next to each other... Definitely start to keep an eye out for a silver sup at comps now!

Clickers are very important if you want to progress past a certain level, unless your super human and can draw the same length each time! although after a few dozen arrows they become like chinese water torture to pull the arrow past, theres always that last 2-3 mm you just cant pull because your knackered :p

My compound has about a 60% let off, so if i draw 55pounds, i only have to hold about 22 at full draw, which is far more laid back but at the same time can still plant one in the gold from 100 yards :D

Im a near 2nd class bowman at the moment, but ive only had recorded scores for three rounds with the recurve, and i switched halfway through the indoor season to comp, so that screwed that up lol. This year will be the interesting one now ive started doing competitions.

What arrows do you use? do you shoot field at all? crawley field course is excelent.

Yeah, holding at full draw is the bastard... then to hold on your back and to continue pulling for the clicker. Trying to train myself for that now. Holding 22lbs should be easy...

Well on sunday I scored badly at 100 yards, new bow and all, but generally average about 60 (9, 7, 5, 3, 1 scoring) per dozen. But when I drop to 80 yards, I am averaging around 85 - 90, so I need to do some work on the 100 yards.

For outdoor target, I use Easton Navigators, with a 610 spine. But considering moving up to ACEs as I am having issues with 2 of the arrows, being consistantly different, IE. always higher than the rest of my group, etc.

Have shot field once, but used bare recurve and ali arrows... Managed to get a shot off a rock and into the kill zone. Minus 1 more arrow... Only do field for fun... bit of a break, also learnt string walking, which was a bit weird

Hi Guys...

Your thread reminded me that we have two complete sets of recurves in the loft.

Not used them for about ten years so the limbs will be shot I suspect (very high & low temps up there).

Used to really enjoy a Sunday morning session at the local cricket ground where the club was. A few arrows and a shandy & crisps and a few more arrows etc.

Did a few comps, the best at the Wilts County Champs where on my very last arrow (think it was a twelve dozen shoot) one of my limbs broke at full stretch - was spectacular !!

Used to love to watch you Compound shooters, brilliant... also used to like watching the longbowers, chilled wasn't the word.

May get back into it at some time, but would be Compound or Longbow, not recurve.

Have fun.....

They shouldnt be too bad... a couple of the longbowers at my club store theirs recurves for ages, with no issues.

I bloody pray that mine never break like that, that would hurt!!

Longbowers are brilliant and so chilled... but shandies only?? ours bring sherry, brandy and whiskey... generally a little to early for me though. Also take my shooting seriously, unless having a bad day.

HAHA!! A SupraForum archery team!!

Yep Toxopholy was my thing until late my late teens. I had to stop due to a shoulder injury. Compounds were just starting to appear then. I was quite close to being selected for the Seoul Olympics in 88.

Sorry for the Hijack. For anybody who is thinking of starting it is a very good sociable sport to get in to.

no worries about the hijack... going to change it to a supraArchery team thread anyways.... :p

lol

I reckon after twenty years or so my shoulder should have healed. Maybe I should have a go again sometime. I do look occasionally on Quicks website and scare myself at the prices of todays equivalent bows to what I had.

I used to buy all my equipment from Severns in Worcestershire. I can't find them listed anywhere maybe they have gone out of business. I had a Yamaha Bow and can't for the life of me remember which model it was, it looks like they have stopped making bows also.

I always used Easton carbon arrows

yamaha bows are old...

carbon arrows are still bloody expensive

Yamaha died a few years ago in the bow business. Over taken by the korians and yanks (Win n Win and Hoyt)

Just to be different as i hate to follow the crowd im trying out the new easton FMG arrows, as they were built with US hunters in mind they go through targets really well, especially with 55 pounds behind them :D They do seem to be very good with compounds.

Next time i bump into you steve make sure i have a bow in the boot and we can put your shoulder to the test. most peeps i know with shoulder injuries continue shooting with compounds :)
