PLEASE HELP

Driving home from a wedding last night and I noticed my speedo dial has stopped working.

RPM, Temp, Fuel and everything else is ok.

THOR Racing fitted a SLD which disabled the speed limiter and I was able to drive over the 125mph limit, but after I noticed the Speedo not working the car would no longer drive above (or what I guessed, as I had no gauge) 125mph. So, I can assume that the signal is not going through the Speedo and therefore the SLD unit.

Last week I fitted a Glo Dial kit from PaulE and tested to check everything worked ok. To be honest I can’t remember noticing anything wrong with the speedo then. I’m sure I would have noticed it before but I can’t honestly say.

I have taken the dash out, check the wiring, made sure the new glo dial isn’t rubbing on the arrow, even pushed the arrow around as I’m driving and checked all the plugs but can’t find any problems.

Any ideas guys and gals

PLEASE HELP

Hello matey, have you checked that the wiring on the SLD is all ok?

I thought the speed signal went through that unit first before the speedo, so if the wiring's come loose then you'd be getting no speedo reading at all?

I could well be wrong and if I am no doubt somebody else will correct me before too long ;)

Take it easy, and good luck with the re-trim, hope to catch up with you at Santa Pod in October.

Cheers,

Sherriff.

Check the SLD wiring is sound. If it is sound then the next thing I would do is remove the SLD from the car and see if the speedo starts working again.

It does sound like a faulty SLD.

BTW, the speed limiter restricts the car to 112mph not 125. You might want to calibrate the speedo with a GPS once it's working again.

Is it illegal to drive without a Speedo working?

My sister did this for years while commuting 100 miles a day to work and back, meaning that when she came to sell her car it appeared to have done 50,000 miles less than it should have! VERY NAUGHTY

Try removing the needle and refitting with the engine at idle i too fitted diffrent gauge faces and have had alot of trouble with the speedo,i set it at 40 mph the other day using the speedo off the road angle and worked great that night nice and accurate the next morning nothing refused to budge so done as i said works now but reads around 10-15 mph too much just about had enough of it to be honest:mad:

might need to talk to thor i think see what they say!!!!

Wayne,

You mentioned Thor, have you got a Thor SLD fitted? You know it's adjustable, right?

Mine was nearly 10% out when I fitted it but after a quick adjustment it's spot-on accurate now.

EDIT: I mean DSC not SLD. (The thing that converts from kph to mph, not the speed delimiter thing)

Have you got access to a voltmeter/multimeter? If yes then if you put it across an earth and the output signal wire from the trl box then you will know if you have an output from that box.http://www.thor-racing.co.uk/TRL/non_vvti_supra.jpg the white wire is the 5:8 output to the speedo. The voltage will alter with differing velocities.

I used to get my speedo tripping out all the time under heavy acceleration and that turned out to be a bad earth causing that. You may have the same problem on a permanent basis so find the speedo earth and re-earth it somewhere else.
