stylieee
the supra has sprung the worst oil leak i've ever seen. got it down to the garage i use (took nearly 5 litres of oil to get there). just had a call off them and they say its coming from under the cam cover, so its a seal somewhere in there thats blown probably. think this is gonna be expensive
uk-rich
if its the cam cover gasket, it will not be that expensive at all, think they are around £20 for the pair
keron
just make sure it is that....sounds like it could be the oil pressure switch too as you would lose loads of oil from here very fast too....
stylieee
dont think it would be the cover gaskets... losing way too much oil for that... went through 2 full 5 litre cans getting it home from work (15 min) and to the garage (35 min)
Soop Dogg
As Keron said - check for a failed pressure switch - it's on the passenger side of the engine, high up on the block close to the head gasket. You should be able to see it near the back of the power steering pump. (Has a single wire going to it) I had one of these go a few years ago and it pi$$es oil out! At least it only cost me about £40ish (I think) for a new one and an hour to fit it.
stylieee
sound like the leak is somewhere behind the cambelt cover though.... crank seal maybe?
Lucifer
Where did you see the oil?
Soop Dogg
sound like the leak is somewhere behind the cambelt cover though.... crank seal maybe? Get back onto the garage and clarify where it's coming from. In your first post you said it was coming from under the cam cover. In your last post you mention cambelt cover. stylieee
its cambelt cover area... typo in the first post sorry. when i was looking all i could tell was that it was at the front of the engine... there was too much oil for me to tell exactly whre though, thats why i took it to the garage. Soop Dogg
In tat case it could be crank seal - but keep your fingers crossed it'll be a camshaft seal - they're nice and easy to fit and aren't at all expensive.
stylieee
yeah fingures crossed then... anyone know what sort of ball park figure i'd be looking at to get it sorted if it is the crank seal?
D8MOA
seal is about a fiver, you will need a belt prob as it will be coverd in oil £25 then the labor 2 fit, 2.5 hours
