RedM
Thousands of motorists who use a bank card to buy petrol are thought to have lost millions of pounds in an international criminal operation. It is believed cards are being skimmed at petrol stations, where the card details and pin numbers are retrieved and money withdrawn from the account. About 200 of the UK's 9,500 petrol stations are thought to have been hit. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6578595.stm Oh that's just great. I filled up at a BP garage on the way back from Supra Pod at a town named as having dodgy petrol stations. We actually stopped at a 24 pre-pay pump and when I said I was paying by card the cashier woman said I could leave my card with her while I filled up. I said that didn't seem like pre-paying and eventually discovered that we'd chosen the only pump that was pre-pay! However, I will be keeping an eye on my bank account and using cash only from now on.
SupraStar 3000
My local garage is on the list and I use it every week. The amount of go-juice I use they could afford a Nimitz Class - Nuclear powered aircraft carrier. Keep an eye on your statments

michael
Where is "the list"?
RedM
There is no list as such. It's limited to BP and Shell garages AFAIK so it doesn't take muct to match the town with the garage. Did a search and found only two in the named town I filled up in.

garethr
It seems to be a good idea to use credit cards rather than debit cards. The banks are much more concerned about their money than they are about yours, and their software picks up odd spending patterns (like transactions in Sri Lanka and Swindon on the same day? ). carl0s
erm, Shell stations got busted for doing this about 6 months ago. Remember when they stopped taking chip and pin for a couple of months. Surely not again?
RobSheffield
I filled up at a BP garage on the way back from Supra Pod at a town named as having dodgy petrol stations. Sorry! FWIW, if any BP in that area was dodgy, id say it would be the one about a mile down the road
Havard
Just checked all my bank transactions. Having 3 cars, we are always filling up with fuel and would struggle to spot a rogue transaction!! I suppose if the scammers took a shit load of money out of your account, you would notice straight away!! Unless you are mega rich... H. JustGav
Your best bet, is to get a pay-as-you-go credit card to put fuel on with... Works like a debit card... Worst that happens, they scam that card and you loose a little petrol money rather than them emptying your normal account...
Green Peace
I stopped at a BP garage near Coulsden South London on the way to Crawley at about 2am some time ago..and they asked for my card before i filled up....I just left and went to another garage rather than leave my card with the dodgy bloke behind the nightpay...mines more likely to get declined anyhow ha ha
