How "Best" is your best mate??

Just a hypothetical question!!

I was best man at a wedding yesterday, see this thread!

http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=107139

As a wedding presents, I gave him a large cheque, some grecian 2000 :D and the keys to my Supra for 4 days!!

Question is......would you do the same for your best mate? At which point does your friendship NOT extend to him/her driving your car??

Given that my best mate had a brand new MR2 when he was 18, and was then given a brand new RX-8 when he wrote the MR2 off, I'd say he's unlikely to get the keys to my Supe ;)

Plus, he called it a "complete chav-mobile" the first time he saw it. The things jealousy makes people say! He did seem a bit miffed when we went for a drive and I kept right on his tail the whole time :D and he came round to the idea that it might actually be a decent car!

Paul,

the Aristo if fixed will be used for a mates wedding in may.

last year I drove to birmingham to use it down there as a wedding car.

I think if the person is a good enough mate you'll make the effort;)

It's too late now Tom anyway!!:D He arrived in the lakes this afternoon. I will get it back on Wednesday evening and then the wife and I are away in it for a couple of days in South Wales.

I trust Ste implicitly, he's even more obsessed with cars than I am.

I just wondered if I had made an over generous gesture!

Especially after giving him £200....;)

Was he the chap at your house before we went to get your car?

Did he look like he could do with some Grecian 2000??:D

Yes that was Ste and Lynsey! They are prectically resident at my house so I thought they may aswell have my car too!!;)

Grecian 2000 is for people with greying hair!!

I shouldn't take the piss. I'd rather be grey than bald!!

The last time I let a mate drive my Supra (I was passenger) he did 172mph in it on the m27. I've never been so worried in all my life.

I would never let him in it on his own.

I've let a couple of my mates ride my Fireblade because I know they could handle it. I wouldn't let them drive my single Supra though. I just don't think they would have the necessary caution it takes to drive a singled Supe. I'll let any of them drive my BPU auto RZ though because I don't care about it much - hell, I even let my missus drive it!

Shite H! I've only lets a few people from the club and one mate drive my BPU supra. They all did fine but all found it rather ferocious :D

Since going single there are only a select few people I'd let drive it, all of which are 'single' owners from this club. It's just such a leap in power I can't trust anyone who hasn't experienced it for themselves (In Their Own Car!!)

I'd let my best mate take it on holiday with him if he asked, but tbh the car really isn't his cup of tea- he's owned 3 TVR's and an Elise so a Supra isn't a big draw for him, but yeah I wouldn't think twice about it. I did offer him a thrash around RAF Abingdon with it but he declined. My other mate did want to have a go and she really did give it some beans. I've let my bro drive it, but despite my sister owning a Mustang, she has no chance as she crashes every car she owns, inc some 3500kg pimp wagon SUV (name escapes me, it's some Dodge thing she replaced her Ford Exploder with after she crashed that) into a wall. She went into the back of the school bus when she was 18 lol.

Yeah Homer, You are talking about a single turbo though. Mine's an NA so Ste's had cars of a similar power before but not recently. He's had a 2.5 V6 Vectra and a 325 BM Coupe.

What's wrong with a simple toaster? :)

My thoughts entirely......:D

I would let him have what ever he wanted. Why wouldn't you, he's your best friend:d

Thats the point Neil. I would have given him whatever he wanted. Thats the good thing about Ste, he never asks for anything....:) I was just wondering whether most other people would do the same!!

I would not let God drive the supe even if he promised me a lift to heaven, would prefer to have that last drive myself even if it was to the fiery depths.....

I feel that every time someone else was to drive it I would be missing out on those miles, every mm on that rubber is mine and mine only.
