Mike
Speak to the landlord... they're usually not as strict as your agent.. They might just say, find someone else? ..or you could get a lodger?
wallace9
If you leave your flat early you are still liable for the remaining monthly payments. If you or the landlord can get someone else in before your next rent payment is due then legally they cannont take both payments so that is the only way round it. I had a similar problem with my last flat. Had to cover the rent but you don't need to pay for council tax etc.
DaveK
When I bought my first house, I was renting at the time and I got out of the contract by advertising the house and finding new tenants for the agency. As a landlord - I would have allowed tenants to move out before the tenancy ended but only once new tenants were found. It should not cost me money. flukey-lukey
I was in the same position as you once. I explained the situation to the landlord and we came to the agreement that I would still pay for it until a new tenant was found. Luckily he found within a week! Also he was a nice chap and gave me back my £500 bond, which he didn't have to
