Jspec Germany
Well done. I had to stop an hour ago. Have class tomorrow..er.. in a few hours. Whenever you get around to it. Anyone else able to point out the common points of failure that may be this squeeking? What is the difference in sound from damper and crank pully? Class One
I first had an inclining that something wasn't right when at tickover on a warm onloaded (aircon off) engine, I would hear a very faint woo woo woo noise from the front of the engine. I should have guessed then that perhaps my pulley was on its way out, but hindsight is wonderful. It did that for about 6 months until last week where the squealing got suddenly more noticeable. Must have been me giving the car too many beans on Wednesday. New crank pulley going on tomorrow.
Jspec Germany
Mine sounds like the belt, so I'm gonna replace that this weekend and see what it does. If I still have the screech, I'll post up and look for the problem. Thanks for following up.
Class One
New crank pulley on in an hour and a half. The starter motor trick worked a treat.

Guest MYM8V8
The belt you want is the same as used for an LS2 chev with underdrive pulley. You can get a new one from http://www.camskill.co.uk about £19 plus carriage.
paulj1
mine does same makes a squeak when engines not loaded checked belt and is in the middle mark and marked crank pulley but hasn't moved sounds daft but could it be the tensioner pulley bearing? I was just about to order new belts and tensioners but want to know weather to bother or not Cheers
TLicense
It could be, but the vast majority of the time this squealing is an indication of the crank pulley outer starting to come away from the inner. It won't slip round, it will start to pull away in an axial direction, then when the rubber is finally split all the way round it was fall off. Fine if you're just cranking the engine, possibly a disaster if you're at 7200 rpm.
Jake
It won't slip round I've seen it happen, Tony.
TLicense
It won't slip round if the rubber is still attached.... Once it's slipping round I would be amazed if it stayed on there for long (as in more than a couple of seconds) as it's not actually being held on by anything! Terminator
My bottom pulley was in a hell of a state when we took my engine out. How on earth the outer could be sitting on the under tray, but the belt was still being driven by the rubber, I will never know.
