Slipping Ancillary Belt?

Class One

Recommended Posts

I first had an inclining that something wasn't right when at tickover on a warm onloaded (aircon off) engine, I would hear a very faint woo woo woo noise from the front of the engine.

I should have guessed then that perhaps my pulley was on its way out, but hindsight is wonderful. It did that for about 6 months until last week where the squealing got suddenly more noticeable.

Must have been me giving the car too many beans on Wednesday.

New crank pulley going on tomorrow.

mine does same makes a squeak when engines not loaded checked belt and is in the middle mark and marked crank pulley but hasn't moved sounds daft but could it be the tensioner pulley bearing? I was just about to order new belts and tensioners but want to know weather to bother or not

Cheers

It could be, but the vast majority of the time this squealing is an indication of the crank pulley outer starting to come away from the inner.

It won't slip round, it will start to pull away in an axial direction, then when the rubber is finally split all the way round it was fall off. Fine if you're just cranking the engine, possibly a disaster if you're at 7200 rpm.
