Guest turbo-happy
hi folks. been browsing the site for a few weeks now and am very impressed. great site and information. *i know this looks like a long story but please have a read and see if ny of you guys can help. my new toys sitting in the drive sick ;-(* i bought me a tt supra 93 model and im having my first problem, and it had to be a bloody serious one!! doh!! i'm in need of your expert advice and there'll be pints for those who could maybe help me! lol well firstly i was needing somewhere to run the power for a shift lighter so i thought id be a smart arse and run it to the back of the cigarete lighter (ive done this in previous cars withought any problem) when i blew the fuse and the centre panel stopped working (clock, lighter, heater system and a greddy boost controller thats in it!) i replaced the fuse but with no joy. after checking just about every fuse in the whole car i couldnt find the fault and took the car to mr T and was advised that it could possibly be one of the relays so to reset them push the hole in the middle of them with a pin. this done i still had no joy reviving the centre panel! now though!!..i have a cat 1 scorpion alarm fitted and whatever i had done the alarm triggered immobilising the car and draining all possible power from it! when i tried to start it with the pack the alarm kept sounding and and the immobiliser/key fob wouldnt swith off, so............. **im sorry guys i know this is a long one, especially for my first post ("sitting ashamed") but please bear with me cos my new toys sitting gubbed.** i was putting a new alarm with remote start and turbo timer etc fitted in over the next few weeks so decided to get an auto spark out to remove the scorpion and see if he could get the centre running. but no. he was at the car for hours last night with no success. he bypassed all the alarm and its now not starting and he still cant get any power to the centre console! he said the alarm was out the equsion (sp) but the fuel relay (or something along those lines) wasnt being activated and the engine wont fire. so now i have a few problems. my questions to you o good learnerd lords *why the heck will the centre console not work even though all fuses seem to be fine and dandy? *is there some kind of loop system or fuse system somewhere that i am maybe not looking? *why wont the fuel start up when the ignition is turned on? *is ther a main relay that may be gubbed that needs replacing? oh please help folks and i know this must be the longest first post in the history of mkivsupra.net but i am looking forward to meeting some of you guys and gals and hopefully one day answer any questions you might have. ;-)
Henk
& I'm a mechanical & electrical virgin so I can't help but there's some geniuses on here who will be along shortly. I'd ask a MOD to move this to a technical room or it might not be seen by the gurus.
Guest turbo-happy
hi henk thanks for the reply. ive made a post in one of the technical forums there. was thinking that when i was browsing there. you sound as if you know as much as me mate!! and thanks for the welcome! Al Massey
welcome mate, have you tried taking the dash apart and look for burnt wires or unplugged ones?
Guest turbo-happy
ye the poor cars sittin in bits just now :-( i think it must be some sort of fuse or relay related problem due to the whole centre console being out. the way i looked at it was that if i had buggered maybe just the heating then the rest would work, or if i had just buggered the cigarete lighter then the rest would work but for some reason the whole lot aren't getting any power to them....... its just so annoying and now with the fuel pump thingy majigery not powering up the car wont even run.... it does look good sitting there though, even in bits! lol
Al Massey
have you checked all places for fuses and relays?
Guest turbo-happy
the auto spark checked all the fuses and said theres power getting to them and they seem to be doing what they should be doing. he reset the relays also. would there be any way of checking if the relay is gubbed. i thought maybe someone would be able to tell me that it was a specific relay that controlled this particular unit and maybe it would be fecked. theres power still getting to the top dash with the milege etc?? I wouldnt have thought so but i know the cigaret lighter has the fuse wire bit on the rear of it and maybe the cigarete lighter is altogether gubbed but with this disconnected from the wires the heating and clock etc shouldnt be affected surely? or is the whole lot in a loop and al have to be working???? ahhh! so many bloomin possibilities!!! Guest turbo-happy
just had a thought. it has a Walbro fuel pump fitted also. would this be wired up a different way from a standard one and maybe the spark has disconnected the wire or summit thinking its alarm??? thanks for your input guys. Homer
just had a thought. it has a Walbro fuel pump fitted also. would this be wired up a different way from a standard one and maybe the spark has disconnected the wire or summit thinking its alarm??? thanks for your input guys. No, thats wouldn't be it, the pump is wired in exactly the same as the stock one. Have you checked all the fuses already, including the one in the drivers footwell? Also, have you made sure the dimmer switch is reconnected when you fit everything back togther? If its not connected it can disable all sorts of interior lighting systems. Homer
Also, a good test to see if the fuel pump system is working is to manually turn the fuel pump on. Bridge ports +B and FP on the engine diagnostics port with a paper clip or bit of wire, and turn the ignition to '2'. You should then be able to hear the pump wiring in the boot. If its not working then it confirms you have a wiring/fuse issue somewhere
Guest turbo-happy
thanks homer, well thats one thing off the possible list then.... what do you mean by dimmer switch? sorry i bet its something daft lol do you mean the small grey light bit above the cigarete lighter? would every part of the console need to be connected up for the rest to work?? the car ran fine even after the problem occured with the console but i dont know what the sparky has diconnected but with the alarm out the csr just wont start.... edit- i'll try that second possibility tonight after work thanks! Homer
The dimmer switch (actually its a dial ) is on the right hand dash panel (above the ignition). Did you take that panel off any any point?
Guest turbo-happy
o right ("blushing") no i never took this panel along with the clocks and face panel out at all but will check it also. i need to check everything, i need my toy back! ;-/
Ian C
If you can list all of the things that don't work we can have a poke around the wiring diagrams and see if there is a common source that is unhappy? -Ian
Guest turbo-happy
hi ian well i dont think the problem with the centre console and the car not starting are related, but here goes there is a greddy boost controller installed, based in the arm rest which isnt powering on. the cigarete lighter isnt getting power to it. the clock isnt getting power to it and the heating system isnt getting any power to it. the stereo is still getting power through to it though along with the hazard lights and milege counter. the car doesnt start cos the sparky reckons the fuel pump isnt coming on when its supposed to. (this couldnt be anything to do with the boost controller not working could it? does it conrol fuel at all with the different stages of boost?) we seem to have checked the fuses which all seem to be fine... Guest supra86
Hi there , be carefull with your cat1 with your remote start. Cause my sup came with a remote start and when i had my cat1 fitted the bloke said it might send your alarm work funny........If you do use it to showof then make sure your keys are in and the electric turned onso that your car thinks your starting it manually
Guest turbo-happy
the alarm's out now mate. it'll be getting fitted with a new alarm. just going out to try the diagnostic plug check and see if the pump getting power and take it from there, even more worrying the auto spark isnt getting in touch with me to get back and clean up
