Wez
Hey All, Looks like some people are trying E85 on supras with good results. After seeing the Lotus Exige setup for E85 on TopGear I wondered how long it would be before someone tried it. http://www.supraforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=427200
Ric
so you can just put that in, without any modifications? E85 is the bio ethanol stuff? correct?
Gamer
so you can just put that in, without any modifications? E85 is the bio ethanol stuff? correct? Quote from the thread: You need to upgrade your entire fuel system capacity by 30+% and it is highly recommended to run alcohol resistant line such as teflon or equivalent (along with appropriate fittings). People have run it on regular rubber lines and fittings, but I can't speak for the long term results of doing so. The fuel mileage will drop between 20-30%. Wez
so you can just put that in, without any modifications? Nope, requires a complete remap, you will also need to double the injector and pump size as you need to inject roughly twice as much as petrol. Here is the article on the Exige 265E running E85 :- http://www.grouplotus.com/eng/news_detail.php?id=39 Here is some Racing E85 Fuel :- http://www.aaoil.co.uk/racing-R-E85-racing
SMiFFAD
Christ, double the fuel, youd need a petrol station half way round a track for the supra Surely from an emmisions point of view using twice as much fuel means even worse pollution than with petrol? so its not really a good thing in the long run - although probably unavoidable due to the finite nature of oil. Robbie
I think the extra oxygen in the mix makes the whole thing run a lot lot leaner (hennce the extra fuel needed)so an aftermarket map/ ecu is required. Also cold starts will be fun! The only e85 pump in the south east is in Crowborough, between Tunbridge wells and Lewes . IOf your in the east around cambridge or the far south west you'll be fine as there seems a good number of pumps.

It is not double the fuel, it is around 30% more. As far as emissions go E85 burns cleaner and is much better on the emissions than premium pump petrol. You would probably sail through an emissions test with E85, in fact it might be a use to people trying to pass the emission test without cats. Jake
Typical, in the US e85 is 50c (25p) a gallon cheaper than their (already cheap) fuel. In the UK it's 2p a litre cheaper (7½p) And it does worse MPG, so overall it'll cost more to use I guess.
