I know the guys at the garage know their stuff, if they were just in it for the cash they would have charged me for a master cylinder. But I refuse to accept the braking performance should be like this on this type of car, especially with the optional big brakes. Let me know how you get on bud, cheers

ukApache
yesterday i got round to bleeding my brakes with the engine running and i found it made only a very slight difference (if any) i'm just going to assume this is how the brakes are supposed to be on the mkiv still dont know why the abs has never kicked in?? if there is a prob with my brakes maybe the problem lies there
PAG
Something dosent sound right i have j spec brakes and i think that they are pretty good nice pedal feel and plenty enough power to kick in the ABS if youre running uk 4 pots i would have thought they would be twice as good as mine.Seems like the only thing left to change is the master cylinder.May also be worth checking round the bleed nipples for any cracks in the calipers my last pair of calipers died because someone overtightend the bleed nipples and split the caliper housings? Thanks for the update matey. Hmmm there was a similar thread recently saying that people found the jap spec brakes had more bite. I wonder if the master cylinder is the same for both smaller and the optional larger brakes, this may explain the problem. But most people upgrade to the larger brake kits don't they! I suppose it depends on what your used to, the brakes on my Integra type-r were spot on, even when the pads were knackered! Just a little disappointed with these. The only way to test this without buying unnecessary bits is to have a go another Supe.
ukApache
just a quick update: slammed the brakes in the wet and the abs came alive
SkinnBa
Good stuff, I tried a few higher speed stops the other week and they are better than I thought (or maybe the CW pads needed more bedding), you do have to give it a good press though...which can make it tiresome round town. I'll probably leave them for now and see how I go. I'll update this if I ever get the master cylinder changed
ukApache
yeh definitely had to give a good press but it seem to do the job i think im just used to the sharp bite i get from the brakes on my civic lol keep us updated anyway
Chris Wilson
If you are up this way I'll have a drive in it and tekll you straight away if they are right or not. Sounds like air in the ABS unit to me, and they are a PITA to bleed. The noise that sounds like a motor *IS* a motor, it's the ABS pump starting up. I can fix it, whatever is the matter. SkinnBa
Cheers Chris, unfortunately you are miles and miles away so it's unlikely....unless you are going to JAE - that's about as far north as I will be going this year Just out of interest what's the best way of bleeding the ABS unit, is there a special way or do you just keep pumping fluid through? Cheers.
