I'd love an Exige, I think they look so cool! After owning a Supra I said I'd fancy something opposite - light and nimble with no top end!!

I agree, the Exige has always caught my attention. A good drivers car, I'd imagine that every drive could feel like a trip around the track lol

however, my reservation is that on your typically bit of road (i.e. not your favourite twisty bit that you get to have fun and practice on day in day out) you could get shown up by a suped up shopping car or hot hatch, especially when the straights come up.

Maybe an Exige with an engine swap would fit the bill.

You have to go test drive these sorts of cars, I found the Elise a real bitch to get into / out of and rather uncomfortable/bland adn basic inside (I know that's what they are about, but there is a limit).

how about (I can't believe I'm saying this) a 350Z as something sensible with some performance level still

Have considered a 350z and at one point I would have loved one but want something with supercar performance and something a bit more crazy to look at. Yeah I know an Exige has a slow top speed but the acceleration and handling make it a supercar beater.

As for an engine conversion you can get a ivtec honda conversion which takes the power up to a maxiumum of around 240bhp and from I hear its a lighter engine than the standard toyota engine. 0-60 in the mid to late 3's plus a higher top end.

As for my height I am 6ft 2 and talking to some of the guys on the midlands lotus owners club I should be fine in an exige. I think they might be taller cars than the elise as are designed for track use in mind which means extra room for the crash helmet.

hmmm a Porsche 996 would be a very nice car. Not sure what the servicing/running costs would be like though

Servicing isn't too bad - 993s and 996s are cheaper to service than 964s (advantage of hydraulic valves). I think the service interval is pretty long on 996s to - could be wrong but I have a feeling it's something like 20k miles.

On the other hand - if something breaks - big bills.

cant speek for an exige but my uncle had a elise... it was constantly out for repairs or in bits in his garage... Now hes got a porche (which are boring) just get 25k supra :p

Around castle donington even I saw off the exiges and the elises in my luxo turbobarge :D The porsche GT3 had a pop and went into the grass and needed pulling out. Thats only £11k of aristo. £25k of supra would be simply awesome.

HMM see I don't get this. Why would you buy a porsche when for the same money supra it would outperform it in pretty much every aspect. I suppose the keys look better in the big dish huh :D

Because the fact is - at least in my opinion - the Supra only outperforms it in one way. It's faster in a straight line.

Although mine is an NA, I've had a TT Supra as well. It was somewhere between stock and BPU and it was quick. Certainly quicker than my NA 911 - probably not as quick as a modern 911 turbo.

But my 911 stops better, corners better and feels much more involving to drive than both Supra's I've owned.

It's been a few years since I had my TT and when I bought the NA I expected it to be much closer to my 911 than it was.

If you want to believe all Porsche drivers simply buy the cars because they want the badge then fair enough. Everything I said above is made up - I bought mine because of my lack of personality and because I'm seriously under endowed. :innocent:

I know there are lots of cars about but if I didn't have a Supra I would defo go for a Porsche 911 of any age or spec. You are talking 20 - 25K for a decent one but you won't lose much money either!!

I want a 911 Turbo by the time I'm 40!!!

What about a Nissan 350z Nismo:

*3.5 V6

*Good handling and good power distribution and control

*280-300bhp

*Fresh Newish Car Design

*Sexy Inside

*Can buy a convertible version aswell

*Can buy some amazing bodykits etc

*Quite rare, you dont see to many of them about...

*Reliability of Nissan (good)

*Can get alot of upgrades done to the engine...I came across a supercharged 500bhp one that blew me away and looked so sweet...I have a video aswell

Heres a link to the whatcar review....it got 4/5

Parkers guide review 4.5/5

http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/reviews/Review.aspx?model=583

The car has a mixture of the supra and m3 image wise I think...I think its a bit more classy and a good compromise..will defo be something different, staying stylish, sexy, powerful, practical, reliable and most of all put a smile on your face..

And as its got a new engine with new Variable Valve Timing Technology you can expect the fuel economy not to be as bad as you all may think

AND CHECK this:

A video of a 350Z vs M3 vs S2000 vs Porche Boxter vs Nissan Skyling R34

This is a proper race test round a track from the guys in Japan..look how well the 350z as standard performs....::

Sounds familiar. My elise isn't the most reliable car I've ever bought - but it is by far the best car I've ever bought!

Yeah but my point is that a £25k supra will by far outstrip all but the most expensive porsches and yes even around corners and stopping. Second hand £25 grands worth of supra will not only have a huge turbo on it, it'll have huge brakes and a handling package of some sort. £25k in the supraworld gets you a hell of alot (also in the skyline and rx7 world). You cannot say the same for a porsche. They hold their values too strongly (one damn good reason for owning one I guess as you don't stand to haemorage value from the instant you buy it).
