Kickdown problem!

SKI

Recommended Posts

Has anyone experienced auto kickdown concerns when overtaking or launching….?

Occasionally, when I floor the accelerator, the box doesn’t shift down (even when I depress the kickdown button fully under the accelerator), so I usually end up having to abort an overtaking manoeuvre.

If I floor the loud pedal but don’t hit the kick down button acceleration is more consistent and reliable. Anyone else experienced this.

When the kickdown does work, the revs jump to about 4.5KRPM with full boost from T2 at around 5.5KRPM is this normal, thought T2 hit full boost at around 4.5KRPM.

Is there anyway to ensure that the box always kicksdown.

Cheers

If you watch the boost when this happens do you ever see it drop back to about 0.4 bar and just stick there when the second turbo should be online? If so then it could be a problem with the pipe-work that provides the air pressure that actuates the ‘intake air control valve’ and the ‘exhaust gas control valve’. I had something similar happening, caused by a hole in one of the rubber pipes. If you need a reference then try this link:

Edit: Just to add the problem only really manifested itself under kick down conditions.

I suspect that this may be a feature of the autobox shift strategy as several people (including myself) have posted up about odd kickdown behaviour before.

In AUTO mode, the box won't kickdown to a gear that would put the revs into the redline, and there seems to be a fine line between being in or out of this zone when you are about to do a rolling start or an overtaking manoeuver.

I usually get let down by the auto box when I'm rolling up to a set of lights and they change to green before I come to a standstill. Usually, even if I go WOT, the car will not kick back down into first to do a decent rolling start. Annoyingly, the car seems to bog down in 2nd and Saxo boy goes screaming past and then tells all his mates up the pub how he out dragged a Supra :twak:

Also, when overtaking, I reckon I get a decent kickdown about 70% of the time.

'Tis possibly my least favoruite aspect of the auto Supra.
