I had a 306. Never ever again am I buying French. Build quality was awful and I often had the car cut out on me whilst driving. Immobiliser apparently...

Im not having that my 306 is superb - especially noteworthy is its ability to blow up at 30 mph and cost me 1200 quid for bit s-FFS!

306 Cost

£2200 original cost

Within 1 week hit a pothole snapped a balljoint and did untold damage to the car

£200 new driveshaft + fitting

£200 re-jigging car

£700 new wheels and tyres

£200 new lower arms + fitting

£150 on trying 2 more drive shafts

£500 on new wing and respray of one side of the car

£1800 Gave up and sold the car. Made a loss but shit happens.

Learnt 2 lessons...

1 - Never buy French

2 - Never buy from Liverpool (apologies for ay offence)

Back on topic though, I would have been happy for that Peugout to catch fire and write it off. The thought even crossed my mine whilst I had the car.

Where the 306 is concerned, I can beat all you current / previous owners.

I had a 306 GTi-6. An £18K car, where 90% of it is actually the same as a £10K car - and even that has the build quality of a £5K car. Total and utter rubbish - worst mistake I ever made.

And the really really funny thing - although I didn't actually have any plans for the 306 at the time, you want to know what car I sold before I bought this pile of crap?

My black 6-speed Supra TT.

Apparently, you get wiser as you get older......

I had a 306DTurbo, which was fanatastic, no problems, only a rock throught the radiator on the motorway killed it. My parents had a 306 S16 with a fully built grpN engine, coilovers, 17's (in 1995!) big brakes- the lot, and that thing was plauged by electrical gremlins- constant agro from the immobilisor & alarm, the doors would lock, the windows had a mind of it's own- it didn't catch fire though. That thing was mental quick, had the weirdest power delivery I've ever experianced and it sounded *awesome*. us and our mates used to have a speed trial from the lights to a bridge up a 5% hill, until I got my MR2T it was by far the fastest car to do it- the 306 did 75 vs a TVR 350i's best of 65. MR2T did 78, not tried it with the Supra, but would guess low 80's. Everyone else in 205GTi's/Golf 16v's were in the fifties...
