restrictor ring poser

Solid Snake

Recommended Posts

While giving the car a bit of 'right pedal' yesterday, the engine seemed to be slightly stalling/juddering type thing (for want of a better expression). Ran fine under normal driving but when accelerating hard I had to loosen off the pedal a bit as it just wasn`t boosting smothly at all. (hope this makes sense).

This was on stock boost with the controller off and was peaking about 1.6 bar. Normally runs on just under a bar.

It`s a J-spec and I have the basic normal bpu modifications and the auto box.

My questions are:

a) If a restrictor ring has been fitted, will I be able to see evidence of it without taking the exhaust apart. It`s a Nur-spec R

b) Would one be advised/recommended.

c) Do any of our traders supply them.

d) It also seems to be more powerful since installing the bov. Am I dreaming or is this normal.

e) I`ve just installed IK22s. Should I ditch them for 24s

Thanks guys,

Andy

Your slightly stalling/juddering, could well have been misfire due to the amount of boost, and possibly det:( at 1.6 bar i doubt you have a RR fitted you also mentioned a boost controller that is turned off, strange, why have a boost controller and no RR, what does it boost to if its turned on:bang: :bang:

You say it normally runs 1bar, when was this, have you changed anything for it now to be overboosting? Do you have cats fitted? If it has only just started overboosting without changing anything, I'd suspect a vacuum hose has blown off or split.

That's a CRAZY amount of boost on stock J-spec Tubbies!!!

As Nic says check your boost piping, but take off the Decat pipe and see if the restrictor ring has been fitted between the join. It may have a diameter in excess of 50-52mm which is 1.2 bar IIRC.

Possibly, but better off taking off to look really to check condition of it. A really ratty one turned up recently.

b) Would one be advised/recommended.

YES

c) Do any of our traders supply them.

YES - Chris Wilson (see my sig)

d) It also seems to be more powerful since installing the bov. Am I dreaming or is this normal.

Dreaming

No idea, I always get the number 2 4 and 6 mixed up in my head so would have to search for that.

Just been to check and yes, the hose connecting to the bov was leaking. Hence the shuddering and hence again I`m looking for a bit 19mm hose in the parts wanted section.

The cat (dunno if 1st or 2nd) nearest the manifold is still in.

I`ve only added the bov midweek and this has just happened since. I adjusted the grub screw at the top (Blitz ssqv) and prolly screwed it too tight as it feels like I`ve no power :banghead: so I`ll keep playing with that `til I get it right.

I installed the BC and the zorst came with the car. It HAS been know to peak to 1.9 bar on hi-boost, that`s assuming the BC is working correctly.

Thanks for the help guys.

Andy
