Chris and Alana
I have a boost problem that seems to be getting worse but I just can't find it When I put my foot down the first turbo usually boosts to about 11psi but lately it only boosts to 9psi and then when the second turbo comes on it boosts to 14-15psi but it usually boosts to 16.5-17.5psi. This isnt the only problem because when Im crusing along and plant my foot, the auto drops a gear the engine hits high revs and then I get about 3psi boost now it used to do this but not that much but its getting alot worse now. If I left my foot on the loud pedal until it chaged gear it used to boost normally but now even when it changes gear it still stays at 3psi until I take my foot of and plant it again, even then I have to try a few times to get boost again. What could this be? Could it be more than one problem? Iv searched for loose hoses but couldnt find anything in that department, Iv read it may be the EGCT (I think) but how do I tell?. This problem is getting worse and annoying because its making my car horrible to drive I dont even like to try and overtake now . Any advice would be appriciated, I would really like to get this solved. Envy isnt far from me but I would like to see if I could fix it myself and save alot of money if I can. Thanks guys. edge
I had a problem with dropping a bit of boost before number 2 came in. The hoses looked ok at first glance suntil i started taken them off then all became clear. I remember someone having a very similar problem to you the other day so hopefully they will see this. CW is a good person to ask.
Suprasteve
i think you have 2 seperate issues. The first issue with not as much boost as in the past could just be the warmer weather we're having, may be worth getting a boost controller and cranking it up a little ? The second issue where you drop down gear and plant it, it sound like the second turbo isn't kicking in. This appears to be a common problem but i've yet to see a straight forward answer - probably cos there isn't one.

Chris and Alana
Iv looked up this thread http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=35926 and it seems very similar to problem 2. If so then it looks like my EGCV is dicky, what do you guys think? Also is the part I would be after an EGCV vsv? Does anyone have a picture of where this is located and what it looks like? I seen that Ian has put some pics up but I cant make out exactly which one is the EGCV vsv or what it looks like. Thanks for your help so far

Steviekid
Also is the part I would be after an EGCV vsv? Does anyone have a picture of where this is located and what it looks like? You can test the VSV like this. If it checks out stick a foot pump on the actuator itself. The valve should open smoothly with around 7psi of pressure. You can see the EGCV below the turbo heat shield. The VSV is above the alternator (the one of the left, the one on the right is the wastegate VSV). Steve has a spare vsv he is kindly donating so if I get stuck at least I know how to check if they are working ok. Thanks again
edge
What was wrong with your hoses? were they split? So do you think it is worth taking them all off and inspecting them individually? Some had little splits on the ends. When i took some off i found that the holes had become much wider. Just used some 1/4 (6mm) fuel line from halfrauds.
