Bobbeh
Looks like my cars been losing oil from this area.. any idea why, loose pipe? or knackered/split cooler? Has anyone with a UK spec had to replace this, and any idea of costs? I'm glad I've noticed this.. hope I can get it fixed this week. The Restorer
Isn't it common for the pipe to split where it joins the cooler. Take the cover off and have a look. You should be able to identify the leak pretty easily.
Bobbeh
Yeah, I'll have to move the cars around.. but I'll have a look later. Does anyone have a manual guide to construction to this unit wityh part numbers just in case?
SimonB
I think I remember someone saying new coolers are very expensive from Toyota, so if it's gone you'd be better off getting a generic Mocal oil cooler and fitting that.
Bobbeh
Yeah, Im gonna take it in tommorow to get it looked at cos if I leave it much longer I'm gonna be out of oil! Plus I cant properly get under the damn thing on my drive way, so its probably best left to them.

Bobbeh
Pig, thats not too bad, unless I read it wrong Envy were selling a Motec unti for £170 so not much difference in price really. (Unless Gaz can correct me) Matt, maybe its the heat? (or that its a 11 year old + car )

pistonbroke
Do only UK specs have diff coolers then? Mine has one and its a Jspec.
Bobbeh
I thought they'd be fitted to cars with LSD's, maybe a retro fitto JDm cars? Dont know for sure.
michael
UK only, chances are it's the cooler itself that's gone rather than a hose leading to it, for some bizarre reason they get holes in them in an odd place - here's my old one http://www.megaboost.co.uk/supra/mine/diffcooler/diffcooler-01.jpg http://www.megaboost.co.uk/supra/mine/diffcooler/diffcooler-03.jpg More: http://www.megaboost.co.uk/supra/mine/diffcooler/ I've had mine "bypassed" for a couple of years - just some bent pipe rather than the cooler, one of these days I'll stick the big cooler I bought to replace it in... maybe. ardasaliah
just by pass it- its not needed thats why the Jspecs dont have them. Only needed if you do 120+ mph on the german Auto barn!! I have by past mine and no problems reported for 3 years now. Very easy to do just remove the old cooler get some fuel pipe and fit in place of the cooler. Job done! Bobbeh
Thanks for the pics and info Michael. As I'm wanting more track days out of the car I will replace it if its duff rather than bypass it.

Bobbeh
I would presume if its working harder and for prolonged periods (ie high speed use) then it would be more beneficial to have than not to.
SUPRASUZUKI
Sounds about right. So another 'system' gets added to the shopping list. Anybody got a schematic of the stock diff cooling set-up??

Bobbeh
Apparently the cooler (in the wheelarch) itself sells for £175+vat (from Toyota), so I dont know what all the rest of it would add up to
avernaz
I have a oil diff cooler is excellent condition. PM if interested. Cheers, Alex
Bobbeh
Thanks Alex, but I need it here and fitted by the weekend... plus I dont know if its just a hose yet
Bobbeh
Update... after getting turned down at one Toyota dealer, I took it to my usual one, they want £400 to get parts and labour. If it wasnt for my need to get it done this week (Santa Pod) I think I'd have done it myself.. but beggars cant be choosers Anyway, they want £250 for the cooler (£196 ex vat) and the rest for pipes and clips etc.
