CJ
So here I am almost at the final decision making stage on whether to move to Kos or not. If I do, the chances are that the apartment in Kos will not be left furnished and I could either buy stuff there and store most of mine here in the UK (I am renting out my house probably unfurnished) or move my stuff over there. I had thought of hiring a Luton box van and driving across but cannot find any company that will hire on a one way only basis i.e. drive there and then leave it with them in Kos. I am guessing that my only alternative would be to get an international removal company eh?
Pot
Where abouts in Kos are you going? I know this post isn't going to help you, but I've been to Tingaki (sp), and it's a lovely place

AndyT
Nice one CJ. Holidayed there not too long ago. Hired a Harley to get around. Hotel was crap but the locals more than made up for that. Particularly enjoyed going to a little family restaurant on the road to the springs. Great laugh. Sorry, can't help with the problem. I thought the international carriers were reasonable now. Since 500 000 of us move out each year. Luck.
DaveK
When my g/f moved here, I struggled to even find van rental that would allow me to take it over to a different country. One of her friends is moving here in a few weeks (which is a whole long story) and I think he'll have the same problem (but I care about it much less). We eventually decided that most of her stuff was crap and what wasn't would fit in the car I had at the time. I did look into international moving companies - I think the cheapest quote I got was about £650. That was something that would take several weeks - and she wasn't including furniture, so it would probably be more for you. If you're interested, let me know and I'll have a dig in my emails - I may be able to find details of the companies I talked to. Some were English (some were french, but you obviously won't want them).
chilli
Do you know anyone that owes you a BIG favour? They could come with you, help you unload and then drive it back for you.
Gerry
Where abouts in Kos are you going? I know this post isn't going to help you, but I've been to Tingaki (sp), and it's a lovely place Kos.... Tingaki.... Memories Bar... Ice cold Lamumber's... Yearn Taking 2 hours over lunch by the beach, smelling the garlic bread and "proper" tomotoes, the warm evenings bathed in red evening light. Branners
buy a van in the UK, drive it over and sell it to the locals there. Im sure theres ex-pats that would take it off your hands. JB
Millsy
Maybe we should do a forum holiday. We all drive down to Kos taking bits of your stuff with us! Only problem is you'd have to let us all kip on your floor - plus beds and stuff don't really fit in Supras!
CJ
Where abouts in Kos are you going? I know this post isn't going to help you, but I've been to Tingaki (sp), and it's a lovely place For the past 10 years or so I have stayed in Tingaki about 3 times a year so could be making my home in Zipari, the small village just outside Tingaki on the main road to Kos town. I thought the international carriers were reasonable now. Since 500 000 of us move out each year. Luck. I am sure you are right. will be ringing around next week seeing what is available and at what cost. If you're interested, let me know and I'll have a dig in my emails - I may be able to find details of the companies I talked to. Some were English (some were french, but you obviously won't want them). Yes Please Dave Do you know anyone that owes you a BIG favour? They could come with you, help you unload and then drive it back for you. buy a van in the UK, drive it over and sell it to the locals there. Im sure theres ex-pats that would take it off your hands. JB I have thought of both of those ideas. I will probably go down the buying of a van route as I am sure there will be opportunities to recoup some of the money by offering a small removal service on the island Kos.... Tingaki.... Memories Bar... Ice cold Lamumber's... Yearn Taking 2 hours over lunch by the beach, smelling the garlic bread and "proper" tomotoes, the warm evenings bathed in red evening light. The dark eyed Greek women... I need a holiday Yep - all those things (Except Memories bar - too many kids ) done it for me too. Every year it became harder and harder to come home. AshBhp
Or, buy a left hand drive van here and sell for good profit in Kos
chilly
Store all your stuff, and buy new when you get there. Its cheap to buy stuff there and if you decide you want to come back to blighty you've still got all your gear. Besides you wont need much, just a bed and a fridge!! I hear what you are saying but what I will save on buying things will be eat up big style on storage fees here. And, should I decide to stay forever, I then have the problem of trying to get rid of the things here afterwards.
DaveK
OK - I've had a search, but in fact I can't find anything useful. I've got a few mails from companies saying "thanks for contacting us, now fill this form in for a quote" but nothing much more than that. It looks like I used websites http://www.movingexcellence.com, and http://www.oneentry.com but can't remember enough to make any recommendations (and didn't actually use anybody's services anyway). It's funny searching through your emails. Just over a year ago : - I was considering selling the 911 (and did through ebay, but the guy couldn't raise the cash). Glad I didn't. - I sold my R1 - My g/f was sending me emails with naked pics of her attached!

Gaz Walker
How much stuff are we talking about here Col. Could you not box it up and send it by sea freight? Bet it won't cost as much as much as international removal company... Gaz.
