Question for auto drivers.

Had the car 2 weeks now and want to know thee following.

1. When using the manual mode in an auto box, do you have to depress shift button to change up and down gears?

2. Should you lift off accelerator when changing?

3. Is it ok to turn off overdrive when using manual mode?

These questions have probably been answered, but I did a search and couldn't find anything.

The reason I want to know is I have a 2 hours space today for a country lane play and want to try these things and need to know I won't break it:cool:

Cheers

1. No, not on upshift, only to go from 2 to 1.

2. Nope, keep yer foot planted just as you would in normal mode.

3. Absolutely fine to turn it off.

Why? Its only the same as it changing up a gear in normal auto. Or it slamming it down a gear on kickdown.

I have driven my car like that for the year I have owned and not had a peep out of my box.

Christ I was doing when I virtually had no oil in the box (i didn't know) and never had any problems.

Dont be a silly billy! Absolutly no need to lift when changing gears.

DO NOT, change from 2 down to L (1st) while moving at any more than snails pace!

In responce to Q3. OD is inoperative in manu mode. But, if you are cruising along in 4th (OD) and switch to manu mode, you will stay in OD if you keep your foot steady on the throttle, the slightest press of the pedal and it will drop out of OD, even if its enabled..

As said re no 2 there was a big discussion about it just under a year ago and it was decided no need to lift off (this was just a big myth) as its just as if its changing normally, only you telling it when to do so. I found it was incredibly difficult to drive the auto lifting off for manual changes, jerky as hell.....

Barry is right above, OD makes no odds in manu, hence saying why its fine to turn it off!

Had a play:D

Manual mode is excellent on back country roads.

Maybe better than a manual cause you don't have to bugger about changing gear and can concentrate more on driving.

Woo hoo great fun and with traction off just as it started raining!!! What fun:thumbs:

By the way what does the little red light above over boost mean?:conf:

Above Overboost??!?

Have you got a boost gauge which is set to warn you when you boost too high?

Maybe that's what it is and you need a restrictor ring fitting in your exhaust!

Regarding changing down to L in manu mode... If you select L at any speed that is excessive for L the box will just not change until you slow to a suitable speed. The downshift when it does do it isn't jerky or slam like at all on my car but some have said they experienced a slamming or jerk on downshift. And to answer a question you didn't ask if you set off in 3 in manu mode it will set off in 2 and change to 3 at a suitable speed and not attempt to set off in 3.

when in manu mode in 2nd and im flooring it i change to 3rd at about 5k and as soon as i push the stick forward the revs rise a lot faster to the redline then it changes to 3rd. it sounds like a 3rd turbo has come in at 5k lol, but only when i change 2nd to 3rd on full throttle. if it was a manual id say the clutch was slipping but does it 80% of the time and only in manu...:conf:
