mathew
on my way to tesco about 30 mins ago and make it onto a road with a long bend in it. so there i am pootling along then spot a patrol car parked on a bus stop with all lights out. get closer and notice a copper in the front seat with a speed gun! look down and see im doing 42mph and the road is a 30mph. but this is a large road with no houses about! anyone now if the cops can do this? there were no speed camera signs, no speed limit markings, approaching on a bend, and he was more or less invisible at the bus stop! otherwise it looks like another 3 points for me:(

Guest Phillw454
Seems 100% ok to me for a copper. Crap though:(

Ian W
no i would have thought it unlikely you'll get anything if he didn't come after you / pull you over.
Geo
Think they actually do this to see if people do speed on that particular road?? Its happend to me a few times wouldn't worry bout it?? Class one might come along though just to clear things up G.
edge
If it was a traffic car then i think he would have pulled you, unless it was one of them speed camera van things then they just take all the info and you may get it in the post.
Kranz
Totally legal. Its called speed limit enforcement. Speeding is now a major priority like drink driving was/is, especially in 30, 40 and 50 limits. Only way out is to stick to 30 Matt! If you weren't pulled you're probably okay as I doubt it was a recording unit, they're after bigger fish??
Havard
You need to get a radar detector mate!! Nothing personal to the guys who are members of the force but I am absolutely disgusted by the actions of the Police when it comes to crafty mobile units. My wife got done recently and although she was doing 39 in a 30 I continually look at the speedo and I am doing over the limit. It's not delberate but you feel like you are pootling along and you are actually speeding. This sitting in white vans with the rear doors open is a piss take and a licence to print money. My wife got done in a place where I have never seen an accident in 10 years. There is a road 500 yards away where 3 people have been killed in the last 3 years and guess what. Never seen a copper or a speed camera on that road. Subsequently my attitude towards the Poilce had changed dramatically.... Rant over! H. Kranz
i really hope you guys are right cos that has ruined a perfectly good day for me Was it hand held or on a tripod??? Hand held = laser speed readout only and manually operated. Tripod = camera linked to laser automatic speed measurement.

Would be funny to tow one away whilst there still in the back My other half is a copper and she dont agree with these things as there never in a place where they should be like outside of schools etc there always near a national speed limit in a country lane

I do not agree with speeding and flouting the law but there are times when you think that you are having the piss taken out of you! As an ex copper it is even more distressing as you see the criminals getting away with murder and the minute you make a genuine mistake or misjudgement you are battered with the big stick. Vicki reckons she might have got done again last week by a crafty tripod. She's been really careful since her first 3 points 10 weeks ago but she was doing 46 in a 40 and thinks she may have been done. She does 4K miles a year like miss daisy. I do 30K rep driving and I have a clean licence. No consistency at all! H.
Max Headroom
I remember reading somewhere where these fellows put the number plate from a mobile camera unit on their car and sped past a speed camera loads of times and what a jolly jape that sounded

Thorin
Legal unfortunately, because they can do whatever the hell they like. Like for example almost causing a pile up speeding through a red light without lights or sirens blazing, then having a go at the person they nearly crashed into for not looking where they were going. SupraAyf
It sounds to me that you have got away with it mate. Don't forget that police do road and traffic surveys to monitor traffic volumes and conditions and this appears to be what they were doing in this case. Police are normally quite fair when it comes to speed traps so I think this was a survey mate;)
