Guest MacNastie
hi every one! Here's the thing, my mkiv has bpu on stock turbos,i have no cats in,a apexi duel cone ind kit, denso plugs, apexi charging stabilizer, and hks fcd. I took it down to torque developments in lakeside, and SAM thinks I'm going to blow my turbo's because I'm ruining 1.4 bar or more!could this be true! Ive been ripping it for 6 months or more and nothing to serious has happend apart from hitting the limiter any help!
Kranz
Is it a Uk spec or J Spec??? 1.3 bar on a J Spec is about the limit IIRC
tooquicktostop
I am no expert but I think you are pushing it on 1.4+ and stock turbos they will give up sooner or later
Mas
what ever it is you need to reduce the boost bar to 1.3/1.25 , do you have restrictor ring ? do you have boost controller? dont let it boost to 1.4 any more or you ll be paying a heavy price. Guest gzaerojon
i think you've been lucky so far, but 1.4 will put way too much strain of your ceramic blades (asuming it's j-spec) also wtf is a apexi charging stabilizer?

Guest MacNastie
thanks everyone! no boost control it wouldent make any dif if the waste gate is fully open anyway! looks like i have to put a cat back in! as for a charging stabilizer you can find them on e-bay this will give you a better description than i could! Guru is you exhaust form the cat back or do you have a restrictor ring in place!

Darren
quick question! does it matter witch cat i put back in? Why not just get a restrictor ring? Second CAT is prob easiest to fit. Hope you are running an uprated fuel pump?

dangerous brain
OK I will put it a way that might make you back the gas off. On the dyno readings my car took, it actually started to lose power significantly above 1.15 bar. Speaking to the guy that dyno'd it he said that basically most J-spec tubbies have an efficiency range. That efficiency range runs out at about 1.2 bar. If you turn up the boost any more than that you are operating out of the turbo's efficiency range. Just so as you know when you operate turbo's out of their efficiency range they start to generate heat as well as pressure (thats what makes them in-efficient). That heat is stuck straight into your charge inlet air. All you are doing by upping your boost past 1.2 bar is knackering up the power flow. You actually lose power by doing this. Its the same as sticking a 6" exhaust on a 1.1 nova.
Wez
Also worth noting that if you are J-Spec your fueling is in the hands of the gods at anything above 1.2bar since the stock map sensor tops out at that. Dont bother putting the cats back in, speak to Chris Wilson on this forum and get him to send you a restrictor ring.

In fact, am I right in thinking that the ECU doesn't get to see boost pressure above 1 bar? I assume the fuel cut defenser will simply clamp the signal to just below what would cause the ECU to cut fuel. In which case, anything above 1 bar is eating into the safety margin of the standard map which is set up rich.
