Jake
How the f*ck do you get old emulsion off plaster? We want to paint the walls in our hall and stairs. We've stripped the wallpaper off but underneath is a horrible pink emulsion that is half blistered and cracked and half welded to the wall. No amount of scraping seems to shift it much but there's no way we can just paint over it. I've tried sanding it (takes forever) I've tried paint stripper (makes it a sticky mess on top but still doesn't come off really) Any tips? DannyW
My Dad and brother are both self employed painter/decorators. Sanding is the way foward even though it will take aaaages
Kranz
Sanding or sandblasting. Or just give it a rough sand with a random orbit sander with course pads, then paint with UHU glue 50/50 with water to make the surface stable and adherent to the next coat of paint, then paint on top once thats dry. SupraAyf
How the f*ck do you get old emulsion off plaster? Any tips? Re-plastering is the way forward if it is a real mess Jake, otherwise; just get some filler and get filling;)

Supragal
how about wall paper? Lining paper up, job done. provided it's just paint flakes not massive lumps and holes..
tomcat
lining paper is nothing compared to fresh plaster and paint though

bromy
I have just been through this Jake, I was pissed off with seeing lines after decorating so stripped the lining paper off and used a orbital sander on the old paint underneath. It creates a right mess with the dust so seal all doors properly with polythene and masking tape

Supragal
lining paper is nothing compared to fresh plaster and paint though Indeed, but if you can't afford a plasterer it's a good option. Not that I'm suggesting Jake is tight.
