I'm a girl, let me go....

No point denying it. A female POW or hostage is in a VERY different position to her male counter-part when under integration or torture and therefore I honestly think no females should be put in a situation in which capture is possible ie. front line in a war zone.

Thats not being 'sexest'. Its just a sad fact.

Female soilders are perfectly capable and I have no doubt are more than equal in the mental and physical aspects of the armed forces, but the threat of interrogation, questioning and abuse must be seriously considered.

I don't understand. Why? Why should it be considered? Why is it worse for them?

Unfortunately there is a large majority of females that are of the same ilk. Full of self importance. Theres too focus on females in the forces, and too many of them try to get out of going to Out of Area.

However, if you were offered alot of cash, when you dont have alot to start with, i'm sure you'd be tempted.

Imagine being able to pay off your mortgage and buy a mint single turbo! Living debt free.

you can't understand why a female soldier being abused under torture is MORE vulnerable and a more delicate situation than a male soldier ?

I don't either. Torture is torture, be it mental, physical or sexual assault. It's purpose is the same regardless of what sex you are.

The whole thing is a fucking joke.

No, I genuinely can't. She is a person in a world where she wants to be treated equally. Why should (for example) having her fingernails pulled out be worse for her than for a man?

I've never been in the forces, but mates of mine that have been in the Navy, Marines and Paras all say the same thing.

Women shouldn't be in the front lines.

It's not because they are any less able, but because they throw a spanner in the works through no fault of their own. Regardless of the training, a man will always try to protect a woman/child first. It's an innate thing.

Would they have just surrendered if she hadn't been there, or would they have put up a fight...?

It sounds sexist but I agree with them, it's just the way we're programmed.

I think everyone is getting caught up on the whole what sex they were thing.

The fact of it is is that she was separated from her male colleagues, told they were dead and forced to write letters apologising to the Iranian people. If it didn't matter that she was a girl or not why did they feel the need to do that?

The reason that she was poured onto our television set every day is because they used her as a tool because she was a woman.

As I've previously said women are treated a hell of a lot differently in Arab countries.

The whole getting paid for it is a bit wrong, although if you look at who sold their story (yes, a man and a woman) they seemed to be (from the media) from the poorer paid ranks and families. I wonder what anyone of us would do when presented with a cheque for £100k. Dave?

You agree with me then Nick?

I do, except for this:

How is she more vunerable? Once you're caught then you're in the shit regardless of what sex you are. If you're suggesting she could be raped, I think a man is just as likely to be.

It's all one big media stunt, don't believe everything you see on the news they turn it to how they deem fit for the public to see... going off the thread here but in the Vietnam war a few GI's kicked the living shit out of a child which was captured on camera and an uproar started, they didn't mention the fact that there sgt had been killed by the kid!

The exact same media politics is being used in Iraq and Afghanistan. If we had of returned fire on the Iranian military we would be at war with them now which would fuel the right for America to go in. Lets face it America is wanting to go into war with Iran over its nuclear program... resulting in a lot of deaths :(

My long point is that the media will use the female in order to get a bigger reaction to the public here. :)

But she shouldn't of sold her story to the press... the mob should kick her out.

Actually - for £100K, no I don't think I would. But for enough money, there isn't much I wouldn't do.

I suppose when you have an endless supply of it, it makes the figures different but like you say, there isn't a lot you wouldn't do.

I certainly don't have an endless supply. But I do have morals about what is right / wrong and I think selling their story to the papers was wrong.

I also like the fact that I earn my money. You can dispute whether I really earn what I'm paid, and the fact that some people certainly should be paid more for what they do - however, I wouldn't really want to be given money for nothing.

I would probably change my mind if it happened (unlikely since I don't take part) - but I've always felt I wouldn't want to win the lottery. It's kind of like cheating - you get all the cash but you didn't do anything to deserve it.

Sorry, are you the same person that wanted a rich girlfriend to live off, you know, she doesn't have to be anything special, just with lots of money? :p
