Jake
What's the benefit of this 4Life stuff supposed to be? I've run mine on 100% water for the last 6 months. I'm planning on putting some regular anti-freeze in when winter is due.

Sharpie
Come on Ash, you know I'm as techie as you I guess since it's used neat, it will have a higher boiling point ....better cooling qualities ?? 99% of soop owners use it, from what I have read and it's not expensive I bet. For me, cooling is one of my highest priorities when it comes to the car in any area......including me (fecking aircon....grrr ) I have also see the possability that you could rot the water pump vanes away with just water like the MKIII cars.....water promotes rust and would it not leave deposits in the rad just like in your kettle ? does that help ? Suprash
But surely not if you use mineral water
dude
The 4 life does make it run cooler, mate changed it in his ducati and now the rad fan hardly comes on , before it was in and out like CJ at a sheepdog trials , it also has a nice trick of turning yellow if the HG goes and then back to red when its fixed !!!!, trouble is you bollox it if you put water in it !!!Until Ash knows if he needs a new rad hes better off with the water / antifreeze mix . Suprash
It turns out the battery didnt have a good charge, CD player was only lasting 10mins when the car was switched off, so I bought a new battery, and that in itself kept the temps down a lot more, must have been the fans couldnt draw the proper current off the old duff battery, it hasnt cured the over-heating completely but it has made it a lot safer to drive without having to constantly watch the gauge. I'm planning on putting some regular anti-freeze in when winter is due. As I understand it, 4life is just Toyota's expensive premixed anti freeze. A secret formula of water and antifreeze I wouldn't run around with just water in it for any length of time otherwise you could get corrosion problems. A mix (33%) of any decent (bluecol) ethylene glycol antifreeze and deionised water is sufficient for all year round cooling
Ian C
I stick to 4Life because although it's more expensive than tapwater and Halfords antifreeze, it comes out the same colour as it goes in. I've never had that in previous cars that subscribed to the more cost-concious coolant strategy - browntastic. Also, I've experienced no overheats even in the summer with a big FMIC and giving it some abuse. -Ian
Suprash
So far my temps have held and not risen, even under heavy load, although this theory has yet to be tested in the middle of a hot day......
