DaveK
Just out of interest - why does it have to be 2L? With a £6K budget you could simply move to an NA Supra.

N/A for simplicity really Dave, less to go wrong, easier to work on, ive had my fill of turbo cars for a bit mate. N/A supra isn't focussed enough and too expensive to run on track too. All look a bit abused though. quality is pretty good though. look at that FD he has for sale for instance:) (sold though). they may look a bit rought but some of his cars are owned by top spec japanese companies...so i guess they know how to take care of a car;)
Scooter
N/A supra isn't focussed enough and an MX5 is? and too expensive to run on track too. NA's generally have smaller jap brakes........good pads and fluid (which you'll need for whatever car you get) will be ok.......and then you can get stock 16's with tyres for between £40-£150 a set........nothing will be 'cheap' as such but i don't see an NA's costs running away that much......... MX5 can be track prepped very cheaply, so many companies appear to do parts for them, crazy cheap. Just look at the price of brake pads and discs on the MX5 and N/A supra, worlds apart. I should have also mentioned, the mrs will want to drive the car sometimes, and i know she won't drive a supra. Also, ive already had an N/A supra, it's not lively enough (and i'm not talking just speed).
AJI
my advice would be to go for a cheap Westfield or Caterham if you can find one within budget. Forget all the heavy japanese stuff like the 200SXs etc. If you are wanting something for the track then it just HAS to be RWD and light weight. I've driven loads of Caterhams and they are great fun on the track.

DannyW
MKi MR2??? Why don't you go crazy with say... a Chevette No more MR2's for me mate, i want something that i won't want to drive every day, i think if i bought something to much like a normal car then i would be tempted to drive it too much which is defeating the object a bit. Chevette you say..... hmm

MrHanky
I would go for either the DC2 Integra Type R or the EP3 Civic Type R. I loved the Civic when I had it. Although the AE86 would be a very cool choice too
