Jurgen-Jm-Imports
but £3750 compared to jm imports £7800, thats a lot of spare money for mods/repairs? the difference is quality mate ( trust me that gz we are selling is 98 times better than the 3750 one..) nothing wrong with bargain hunters if you know what your looking for but as said previously by others you have been warned.. by the sounds of things am buying from the wrong places lol
vvteye
After just reading Jake's post, I now have this stirring vision of the auction site at Southampton next Tuesday: There will be 20 dealers and 150 Supra Forum guys next to the burger stand:innocent: Absolutely priceless and 50 of them will be going back to the carpark just in time to see their P&Js loading onto the transporters... China Man
I heard these cars made it to the port are left overs, people at auction in Japan have the first dibs. Could still be nice cars here but must pick carefully. I defo agree club members budding up and go and hunt for bargain. I can see why a lot of members say avoid, its a trap if you don't know much about cars and just lured by the low prices.

There are some good points made here............ ...........my take is this, yes Jurgen etc get a good look at whats available...........however stock cars say 93/94 cars in silver and with stock 16's and no mods are not good sellers and aren't generally snapped up by the prvate or smaller importers......... Does anyone remember that high grade immaculate 03/4 silver 6 speed Envy had that was a slow seller? The one at southampton has nothing going for it, if buyers are after extra style or mods. However if you aren't fussed about this it would seem to be a good deal......... Lots of opinions are "i've heard" or "X said..." etc. IMO if you don't go and see for yourself then you can't automatically slate these cars.......... Chris Wilson
Motor traders use trade plates, a private buyer is safest trailering it back.

Gord R
I have to agree with what Jurgen has been saying... yes im not deniying you may be able to pickup a decent one from time to time as long as you know what to look for... If your purchasing older stock , even from the japanese auction houses you are without a doubt going to have do some work mechanically - your not just going to get away with slapping a fog light on and getting an MOT.. IMHO i wouldnt buy from japanese or uk auctions anymore, i would only ever buy from decent dealers in japan.. i have particually high stds and am therefore willing to pay that bit more to purcahse a car i know will be right. Guest billybig1
This is always a tricky subject, especially for the dealers. I live in Bournemouth, about 25 mins away from gate 4 in Southampton. Motorway used to be one of the best kept jap import secrets. When the general public find out how much you can get an import for they are always excited and think they should get the cars themselves. You can get cars at Motorway Auctions for cheap as chips" and sometimes you can get a real bargain i.e. a decent car at a decent price. There is always something there that makes you want to get the credit card out and try your luck, BUT, thats why people like Jurgen are dealers and we are not. They know the difference between a dog an decent motor at first sight. It is so easy to get burnt there. I have been about 20-30 times as I have a few dealer friends and have seen a mixture of stuff go through. B-have was spot on when he said it is the dregs of Japan. They auction all the good stuff in Japan and send the shit over hear to the Irish guys in Motorway who sell it on the people like 'Torque' and 'Keighly trade centre'. I really enjoy going there as its a good bit of fun and its cool being surrounded by imports, all of which are in your price range (kid in a candy store?) but I have never bought a car from there as I have nevere seen a minter. Nearly all minters are sourced in Japan. To be honest Motorway and others like them are responsible for bringing down the price of all our Jspec supras. You can see why just by reading the comments above, why spend £8k on a decent car when you can take pot luck for £4300, as per my comments re CJ on a previous page. The answer is because you may end up with a real dog! Why take the risk?
mr keef
why spend £8k on a decent car when you can take pot luck for £4300, 3700 pounds difference!!!!!!!!!!Thats why!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!come on if your a total numpty.....then yes you can get a dog,but if you know what your doing then you can save money and get a decent car,and spend what you save on making the car even better!!! Pete
when you buy a car from auction does it have to be towed home or can they be driven back. Only if you're driving it directly to your favourite test centre (and are insured of course) However, if the vehicle needs to have a single vehicle approval (SVA) or MOT test in order to be registered, the vehicle may be driven to and from the pre-arranged test appointment. Thereafter, the vehicle must be kept off the road until the registration formalities have taken place. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/BuyingAndSellingAVehicle/ImportingAndExportingAVehicle/DG_4022583
CJ
.... as per my comments re CJ on a previous page. Just to confirm (again) that the CJ you spoke to is not me. As Highlander once said, "There can be only one".
Guest billybig1
Ok, what i mean then is... it is very easy to get burnt when buying from any auction, especially one that is reknown in the South for stocking the shite that japan doesn't want. Do what you want dudes!

MikkyB
Obviously those are only the starting prices, but do you actually get to see some genuine bargins go through that site?
Chris Wilson
Definitely, you'd probably be surprised juts how may Liverpool / Southampton auction cars there are ion this forum You ned to have a good grasp of the MKIV to buy auction, or pay someone who does, but even then the price saving can be exceptional.
