Cutting out Ford Focus

My wife's S plate focus seems to have developed a very irritating habit of cutting out every so often. It has done it to her at low revs/off throttle/overrun and it has done it to me whilst on the gas. All the dash electrics (speedo etc.) cut out and then come back on again (stereo seems fine!) and the tripometer resets itself.

Any ideas much appreciated :)

I have a feeling that there is a problem with a wire somewhere shorting out on the brake vacuum booster or master cylinder. I'll try and find it.

Is it a petrol engined Focus?

Edit - This is it....... Solution: A common problem is the cylinder head temperature sensor and ignition cables touching. This will cause a number of electrical gremlins including the speedo, wipers not working, electric mirrors, interior lights coming on etc. The solution is to re-route the cylinder head temperature sensor around the ignition cables and secure in place.

Cheers dude, I'll give that a go - or rather, let the garage do it since they're coming to pick it up today to repair some bodywork that got bent a while back by someone whilst the car was parked up (he actually left his details!!!:)).

I'll ask them to check this though (yes, it's a petrol engine).
