imi
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/6537633.stm Complete and utter shambles.....talking about letting the country down. Why oh why is Vaughn in the team (he's actually a liability)? They really need to sort out the opening partnership. Why is Flintoff batting ahead of Bhopara and Nixon? And the bowling lack any firepower, the bowlers are way too inconsistent. On a slow wicket like yesterdays, how come bhopora wasnt asked to bowl (he is a good wicket to wicket bowler) They dont deserve to be in the semis; message for the team - enjoy the flight back home ................. CJ
TBH, I find these kind of posts rather distasteful. As someone who played sport at a high level, I find it amazing that any of the general public can honestly believe that players go out on the field and attempt to play badly. Sports stars, just like "normal" people, have off days. They are humans and not machines and are subject to the same ups and downs. If you want to criticise the team choice or the order then that may hold merit but not the attitude. As for letting their country down, well that is just silly. CJ
BTW, I think you will find that it is spelt "minnows".
Daston
No I know diddly squat in terms of ball sports (give me anything with an engine and I am there) but dont we normaly loose at cricket anyway?
Charlotte
I agree with CJ. It's so hyped up with the media shock headlines about the team and their personal life we feel we have a right to insult them they're representing our country after all. But they're just doing their job and it must get tough sometimes. Haven't they had loads tournements lately?

But they're just doing their job and it must get tough sometimes. Haven't they had loads tournements lately? Sorry have to disagree with the both of you here. The England Team seem to be having more off days that not..... I don't care about the hype or their personal lives (what they do in their personal time is their business) - When they are on the field I expect them to give a 100% and to play to their ability as a TEAM. I don't think you can say that all the boys are focussed and are doing that - if you are, then not worth having this debate with you, sorry. Just compare their attitude to the Gods of the game; the Aussies. Even with the minnows of the game, Bangladesh & the surprise of the tournament IRELAND have shown what great hunger they have to be successful. They hardly have any Stars in their side, let alone superstars and look at them; play as a team and beat sides like SA, England & Pak. I am not going to justify my position by saying that I have played at the top level of the sport.... I find that comment quite amusing. SPORTS STARS are exactly that, STARS, they are not NORMAL People, if the country was looking for normal people to be part of the national team, then you and me would be playing for the team - well I would be anyway Mind you, In my younger days and even now, I am a lot more potent than most of the inconsistent English bowlers.....At least I can hit the stumps OR bowl just outside off-stump at a good pace 5 bowls out of 6 easily....... BTW, I think you will find that it is spelt "minnows". Ta.

CJ
You said that? Then you say that?! Ah well, yet more typical Imi inconsistency and utter drivel. I should be used to now really after some of the previous posts.
imi
You said that? Then you say that?! I didn't consider it to be the TOP LEVEL of the sport. Top Level would be the 1st Team of the counties (in the UK anyway). Anyway, you're missing the point of the initial post......the order of the team is wrong and certainly a lot of the players in the team shouldn't be there (plenty more players that are capable of doing a better job). I'm hoping that one of the minnows, Bangladesh or the Irish end up in the Semis - that would be fantastic for the spirit of the sport. 3 horse race I reckon, Aussies, SriLanka & the SA.....All 3 teams have many more ON days than OFF. Same can be said about the 2 minnows mentioned earlier - I thought that was a given for this standard of play; obviously that level of discipline hasn't sunk into our team....for some weird reason. colsoop
I didn't think England played to their abilities. It has happened a lot recently, look at the ashes. Why this has happened i don't know, but as a fan i feel let down and frustrated by the results, im sure they are trying hard but something needs to change, what i don't know The media never help, there with you when you are doing well but are the first to slate you when you do poorly. One thing that was a dissapoinment was the drinking during the tournament, there is nothing wrong with letting your hair down when it is over but drinking (to a heavy level) when the tournament is going on is a little unproffesional to me. Having said that back in the day they used to bat pissed and perform well
