Dodgy SLD?

Class One

Recommended Posts

Took the car to work today, and on the way had an opportunity to use a private test track to wind the car up.

Got to about 120 leptons and the car cut out and continued to do it. Tried it at wot and kept getting fuel cut (fcd still not fitted) and tried feathering the throttle using about 0.8bar boost and still got it.

However, on the way home managed to find another bit of deserted track and managed to hit over 130leps before i had to let off due to a slower vehicle on the track. ;)

If it is the sld, where is this located and could it possible be a loose connection? Or is it fubar'd and requires replacing?

Speedo works fine etc etc.

I must admit that when you took me out for a spin on that test track when it did cut in, it was much "softer" than fuel cut felt like in my car. It's normally quite violent when fuel but kick in - almost a like a kick in the back.

The SLD is normally mounted somewhere just behind the instrument cluster. There will likely be a wire connected to the cluster that will look out of place (the one to the SLD), trace this back to locate your delimiter :)

Intermittenent bad connection, normally caused by poor quality crimped connections being used instead of proper soldered connections. Best to have the SLD out and have a tug at the wires.

My SLD is by the ECU.

Sounds most likely to me.

The Thor TSD (and I believe all TSDs) is wired* into the ECU - so easy to getto and check on. The pink wire coming from pin 2 (IIRC from memory - if not it's pin 3) should be intercepted and have the limit defencer wired into it rather than the original loom.

* = doesn't matter where it is installed (mine is behind the dash), but the delimit bit is wired into the ECU.

Should be a simple 5 mins diagnosis and 5 mins fix.

Good luck Doug! :)
