Screech on start up

Every other time i start the car, i get a loud, split second screech (like a dog yelping). Doesnt do it every time, although more often than not.

If had a good look round it this morning, and cant find where its coming from, but seems towards the back of the engine/GB area.

Any suggestions what this might be? car drives fine, bit stumped!

No the crank pulley is in 2 parts, and its no way connected to your timing well it is, but it isnt, as it only drives the AUX belt.

The outer part is glued to the inner part, and they can split and move around, click the highlighted crank pulley

  • 2 weeks later...

and it issssss *drum roll*

Crack pully, well diagnosed Ric :)

Put a dab of tippex on both parts, turned it on, wacked on the ac full chat and turned the wheel fast, got a squeek. On cheching my tippex marks, they have parted company - so that needs replacing

Don't drive it like this Ad or it could fall off, taking your rad with it :Pling:

Don't know how much new ones are, but they're expensive  Steve Manley is your man.

It takes a fair bit of punishment to get it to move, so as long as i keep the ac off it only slips when i start it. Plus due to the warmer weather the rubber must be doing a better job of holding on, as it rarely screeches on start at the moment.

I have a friend in the trade getting me a price for a new one, should get it atleast 15% lower than Mr T prices "every little helps" Was going to get one off NIC, but obviously i need one a little sooner than 4-5 weeks now, DOH.

Sure i cant fix it with JB weld and fibregalass? :p
