silvershark44
Brazil's well into lpg too. They take eco friendly seriously and the government is savvy. Our's is a bunch of robbin gits into short term not long term investment. Would you really want to swap governments?
Guest gsw
basicly LPG allows you to run you car for bugger all i dont take any notice of how much fuel i use because its so cheap i am currently paying 36p per liter. We currently have a EVO 8 MR as a demo car and it produces 320 bhp on petrol and 336 bhp on gas.

We currently have a EVO 8 MR as a demo car and it produces 320 bhp on petrol and 336 bhp on gas. Now this is very interesting - More power and cheaper to run. Why hasnt this become a bigger thing in the car tuning industry? I have a dicsovery 2 V8 and cant bring myself to have the conversion as ive seen so many with good quality kits go up in flames. I have 3 landrover breakers in the area and each one of them has a big section of landrovers that have had engine fires due to lpg.
Guest gsw
discos run very well on LPG,have a multi point injection system fitted. You wont get more power out of your disco but it will be dam cheap to run. Turbo cars make more power on LPG n/a cars usally loose a little at the top end.
silvershark44
this cant be right surely? Your saying that an LPG supra conversion would give more power and be more economical. I would love this to be the case, but surely it cant work out like that.
tbourner
Not more economical, just cheaper.
Lewis
Not more economical, just cheaper. cheaper = more economical Or do you mean it is not more ecological? or are you talking fuel economy not cash economy? I'm confuzzled?!?!
tbourner
I mean it probably uses more of the physical amount of fuel you put in, so it's less economical, but because it's 40p a litre instead of 99p you pay less - hence it's cheaper, but not more economical. I think!

I think! Ok so you are talking about it being worse fuel economy (litres per mile) rather than less economical (£ per mile). That makes it clearer, cheers

silvershark44
Hi, sorry have only just seen this, My Aristo TT is running LPG and has been running it for around 4 years now roughly speaking i can get 240 miles for £18.Because the LPG is rated at 105 octaine it also produces more power on LPG. I am currently going down the BPU route and have orderd a kit capable of running over 400 bhp i will let you know soon how it goes. If any body is considering getting this done you need to make sure the conversion place is competent with high power turbo cars and they are LPGA registerd.Regurding the the filling station issue LPG is availble nearly every where now the reason you dont see them is because you arnt looking for them but when you have LPG you will be suprised at how many filling stations there are that will be local to you. For Tbourner I beg to differ, that is very good for a TT
garethr
If you take the cost of fuel to be: unleaded 89p super unleaded 95p LPG 47p and the MPG on LPG to be 20% less than the MPG on petrol then (if my spreadsheet is correct) using LPG saves you about 35% of your fuel costs against unleaded, and about 39% against super unleaded. tbourner
He gets 240 miles for £18 at 36p a litre, so that's 50 litres, which is 11 gallons (?), and that's about 22mpg. That was what I was getting in my Supe, so maybe it really is more power for nothing!
lust2luv
More weight too though, so power/weight probably won't improve, and general performance would be worse (although it might give a nearer 50-50 weight distribution).
Guest gsw
LPG has a lower calorific value than petrol of about 14% so you need more gas than petrol. Most modern gas systems are fully mappable and with the octane rating higher than super unleaded thats where you can get the extra power from.I forgot to mention that with LPG you can run the car with no cats and pass the MOT test because they are tested to different limits. SUPRASUZUKI
Is it true that LPG burns cleaner than petrol too, so your engine oil doesn't degrade as quick. So more miles between oil changes?? Or did I dream that?
Chris Wilson
It's only (IMO) viable if you buy a car someone else has converted, you live near where a regular supply is available, and you do a lot of local mileage. janes Jeep is OK on it and makes the fuel bills for a 4 litre equivalent to the diesel model equivalent. Ther is a noticeable performance drop, but it's old, single point technology. If you have LPG as the house central heating fuel it makes VERY good sense.... dangerous brain
Hmmm mayhaps I will be discussing this 400 bhp plus kit with you on our stand at JAE chap. I've just gotten my money back from the LPG kit I was going to fit to my rangey as I just couldn't justify the cash (I think I will sell the bloody lumbering great thing). Its the boot space loss that put me right off though to be honest. The fact hat LPG is 48 euro cents as opposed to 145 euro cents per litre at the garage on the corner from me makes a tad of a difference.
